my optimism for Speed Queen's new top load washer wash system

Good evening everyone,
I have witnessed the video of the 2018 speed queen top load washer. So far, it seems to be a very effective machine DESPITE their new platform. Speed Queen has really done their homework when being stuck between a rock and a hard place. They wanted to satisfy the wants and needs of their customers, but at the same time they were/are required to abide by the EPA/DOE federal guidelines. They have done so much tireless research to develop this new product that will be available to the general public coming soon. I bet everything I own this machine will wash to the equivalent to their current models, if not better. I can't wait to see more videos!
What are your thoughts? I hope we will give this machine a chance to shine.

I'm going to be buying the new speed queen this year, when i get my tax money maybe, start with the washer then next year maybe the dryer.

I Have No Doubt

that, had my dryer not died in October and I decided to buy the current mech timer pair, I'd have been very happy to have this new system in 2018. Of course, as I've stated before, I don't get laundry very dirty--as someone inferred, my clothes have 'office dust'--and I'd enjoy having that 7-year warranty. I've never owned a washer/dryer set that didn't satisfy my standard for cleanliness.

And thanks for your thread! So much sour, negative opinion based on conjecture on here, it's nice to see someone with a more positive outlook.

Exactly! I was strongly against today's washers and I thought they were the worst I have ever seen. I wanted to rant about the new speed queens honestly, but I feel confident in this machine after watching a full cycle video. I would use the auto fill with the heavy duty cycle at all times with the heaviest soil level and highest wash/spin speeds set. The only thing I'd change is the water temperature depending on which colored load I am washing. The darker the color, the colder the water. The lighter the color, the warmer the water. I can't wait until the official demo video is out. I hope others will chime in and give these machines a chance. I'm sure this will work on heavy soiled loads, but more real life tests will be done before being officially released to the general public. I'm sure speed queen has a recommended laundry detergent and fabric softener for maximum performance. I'll still use bleach when washing whites every time. I'll always use laundry detergent and fabric softener. I feel it will be more complete with all three additives depending on what I wash. I'd love for speed queen to come out with a washer and dryer that talks especially for people who are blind/visually impaired. I also would like for speed queen to come out with a washer that holds up to an annual supply of laundry detergent, bleach, and fabric softener and distribute it accordingly depending on which cycle. I'm sure it will be better than GE's.

I will be honest.........

I was skeptical at first, so much so that I considered buying a new SQ TL so to have the last traditional model. After seeing this video, and watching closely, I would be satisfied with the way the machine washes. The clothes are moving back and forth and through the water with detergent, what else do you want? I think it will be fine and most folks will be satisfied with their wash. If I need a new washer in the future, I would purchase one of these new SQ machines if need be.

Until we can see a full load of Jeans and heavier clothes being done in this type of machine I am not sure about it as this one video seems to have a very small load and lots of water being used to clean it. I myself do need a new machine but now confused about which way to go after seeing this. I also wonder HOW did they bypass the lid switch? In the training video I watched they said repair man had no current way to 'watch' what is going on inside, and SQ was working on some sort of mechanism to help with that, which I found strange that after 3 years of development they had no way to bypass easily.. I also feel for folks like me the price of these machines are going way beyond what some can afford unfortunately, just like the high price they had on their front loaders which many could not afford. I hope reviews are positive on this new design but only time will tell, and I may not be able to wait that long to get a new machine so it is poor timing for me. I have found in my area no one has SQ available at this time either, so perhaps until new models are in production mid January, I would not be able to get a SQ anyway. I do appreciate these videos being shown here and of course everyone's opinion on them too. Now that Maytag has a traditional top load alternative it will be a hard choice although I don't like the look of that Maytag it seems to wash well in the videos, but only a 700 rpm spin speed so not sure how good they are on extraction either, something I was never pleased with on my current SQ washer.

You can always get a Roper top loader for $299 at Lowe's! I looked at them before I bought my SQ in October; my sister has one that she's used for over a decade and it's still going strong. Such a bargain?

Bypassing lid switch

The lid switch is easily bypassed by shoving a bit of cardboard to keep it depressed.
The lid lock was defeated by removing the actuator from the lid and putting it in place. It need to be held in a certain position during locking otherwise it won’t catch.

Hey Loraine, what is the name of speed queen's new wash system? Can you do a full load of dirty clothes like colors and jeans with premium HE laundry detergent and fabric softener on heavy duty like in a real life situation? I'd like to see the mechanics of this machine in action and hear them with the top closed with warm water, auto fill heavy duty and the heaviest soil level possible. I'd love to hear it running when it's quiet in the building. I hope more tests come soon. The wash action I saw was intense, although it sounds weak. What I believe is happening is there's extreme turbulance in the water moving through the laundry load.
