My question now is what glue will with stand a family of 6 opening and closing the meat keeper. The bracket that holds the tray in has broken, on both sides, at the end the holds all the weight. My sister doesn't want to put the money into a new shelf. Any suggestions on a glue that will withstand the wear and tear this is subjected to?
As always thanks,Mark

I'm guessing that glue probably won't provide a lasting repair regardless of what type you use considering the stress the repaired part would be under.

If there's a way to splint it, you could try that.

Is this a fairly new fridge? It sounds like a design flaw, or are they all just way rough on things at your sister's house? Does she know how much the replacement part will cost? I'm guessing it would be worth it because the meat drawer is going to annoy everybody for a long time otherwise.

Ralph Thank you for your input. I didn't think of splinting it.
The fridge is only about 6 years old and the part is only $80.00, but my sister doesn't want to spend the money right now. As I said there are 6 people using the fridge my nieces are 14, 9, & 7 my nephew is 6. I would have to say they are hard on it. The kids make their own lunches for school.
Most plastic glues are specific for certain plastics and that was why I was asking. I wanted to use the correct one hoping it would hold, at least till she saves the money to buy the replacement part. Again thanks for your help.

try gorilla glue. you have to wet one piece with water and the other with the glue, clamp for 24 hours and it should not come apart again.have used this on various items and always works.

Yeah, I'm trying to visualize the broken piece and am wondering if clamping is even an option. That's the one thing that places limitations on the use of Gorilla Glue.

$80 isn't too bad, though. Xmas is coming!

I'm not the best at describing things. It's the open end of the drawer where the drawer slides in and out of. I do believe it can be clamped. How tightly does it need clamped? For Christmas the adults in my family exchange names so it will be luck of the draw. I'll have to think about it though. Thanks again for all your help. Mark

I think the Gorilla Glue instructions will give an indication on how tight to clamp it. You wouldn't want to do it so tightly that the glue all got splooged out or the assembly buckled. I would say just enough to keep the two broken ends tightly together, and make sure everything is lined up and positioned correctly to avoid buckling.

I do think I know the piece you're trying to fix. The meat drawer itself has a lip on both sides that the broken piece is supposed to support and allow it to glide in and out, correct? On a recent fridge it might be more complicated than what I'm visualizing, but best of luck. I think realistically that a new part is the ultimate solution to the problem. Try on line and see if you can get it cheaper than $80, if you haven't already. You could also rig the lottery so you end up with your sister's name . . .
