I may buy this to replace our POS (non GM) Frigidaire. I did already buy a lovely Thermador but it's gas and my 88 year old mother may not be safe with that choice.

This one apparently has never been used, but what the heck is it, a Bosch?

My guess it is an Ikea range made by Whirlpool, WP got this platform from MT who got it from Magic Chef, In my opinion these are average ranges, GE would be a much better choice for this type of range if it was going to get a lot of use, but if the price is right and it is to get light use this range may be fine.

I believe it's called 'FRAMTID'

And, as John said, was sold by IKEA, made by Whirlpool.

It's on page six of the 2014 North American lineup pdf from IKEA.

 

I imagine it will be a perfectly good range - IKEA kitchen appliances I've used in Germany were always good or better for the price.

And I thought you weren't a big fan of European Whirlpool products. That's what Ikea sold for a long time. Nowadays they have a lot of rebadged Electrolux appliances. Most of them very cheap stuff.

This agrees they are made by Whirlpool. The newest model ranges are very similar looking to Whirlpool models.

while I have never forgiven Whirlpool

for what they did to Maytag, I have used their Ikea offerings and, quite frankly, they were about on a par with B/S/H, give or take. Certainly no worse than Candy.

Of course, American stuff is below Candy in quality, so there's that to take into consideration, too.

A far greater sin is what Whirlpooper did to KitchenAid, destroying all of those service parts so that classic KA machines could no longer be kept in service with little, relatively inexpensive parts. ROAST IN HELL, UPTONS.

What Whirlpool did to Maytag

Hi Kevin what would you have done differently if you were whirlpool and had bought Maytag? Maytag had already destroyed them selves but I'd love to hear your take on that.

 

Dave, Hobart did not own KitchenAid when whirlpool purchased it Dart&craft had bought it from Hobart years before.

I'm glad you asked

1) I was savaged here for supporting the takeover of Maytag by a Chinese company who had promised in writing to keep Newton and the workers. We don't want no godless commie gooks running our glorious Highlander! That was one of the least inflammatory comments aimed at me. We want all-American Whirlpool to honor the tradition of glorious Maytag. Seriously. Was told that. It's in the archives.

2) Whirlpool immediately killed all the good Maytag designs, fired the workers, closed the factory, put thousands of suppliers out of business and anyone who, today, claims Maytag is anything but a gussied up Roper/Estate/Kirkland dressed in cheap chrome plated plastic thinks lipstick on an Alaskan bulldog makes it look smart, too.

 

Whirlpool didn't 'save' Maytag, they destroyed her. 

 

Now, nobody disputes that the Maytag managers made the company a disaster. Idiots, every single one and they didn't deserve those golden parachutes. At.All.

But - we had a firm, written, genuine offer on the table to keep the workers and the good designs and it was rejected because of rah-rah rah 'muriKKKa whoopla.

Stupid. Stupid, too, in the business sense - the appliance market needs more competition and less concentration. Whirlpool, today, is like GM in the days of it's millions of motor divisions and companion cars.

There weren't many "good" designs left. Dependable care washers had cheapened stem and seal kits that leaked badly way too soon. Newton dryers were good...that's about the extent of the "good" designs. Atlantis washers were a slightly sturdier version of a Performa platform at a price higher than a DC. Front load Neptunes were corrected too late. Tall tub dishwashers were flimsy and trouble prone as well. Refrigeration was not up to par either. Cooking was a "gussied up" warmed over Magic Chef platform. You can bash Whirlpool all you want. Any company taking over would have eventually gone to their own designs. The brand name was dragged through the mud long before Whirlpool came into the picture. These observations are based on my own experiences repairing appliances for a living.

By that's not how Whirlpool sold the takeover. They really pushed their love for an iconic American brand and keeping American jobs in America.

We fought this one so hard and I was kicked so viciously in the teeth by the rah-rah-'muriKKKA folks around here back then that I remember it quite well.

 

Had Whirlpool openly said: There's nothing left to save, we're losing money on this and will for years to come (and it did cost them a pretty penny as those horrible bad Amananannatags and all the rest of the trash continued to fail under service guarantees) I'd have been much more accepting of it.

 

But, no - it was all: Those horrid Chinee' slant-eyes must not be permitted to get their yellow paws on our glorious American product, even though they've promised to keep the workers and the factory right there. Nope, it was unpardonable and Whirlpool played it to the hilt.

 

Now - two things. One, Whirlpool today is admittedly not the gay-bashing, lying hunk of MBA jerks they were back then. Good!

Second, nobody in their right mind questions that Maytag was making trash. Just - their really good stuff was axed by Whirlpool at once.

Yeah, would hardly call them gay-bashing folks...they have put some serious resources behind LGBT marketing and they were out in front when marriage became legal here in Michigan. They're quite active and supportive in the western Michigan community...know several of their LGBT executives.

In the vein of Maytag....

I'm sort of hopeful with Haier buying Ge appliance division, there will still be some competition.   I've talked to a few of the rep's and they indicate Haier has not gotten rid of anyone ---yet-- and intend to keep production and design here.

Robert--That looks surprisingly like a very tidy Siemens unit I had to pass up about a month ago…not saying it is at all--just stylistically super close.

I bought it for $300.
It has not been used but was slightly worse for wear having been moved a few times apparently.
No problem as the dings and dents and on the sides and back so will not be visible after install.
I will snap pics when I install it in a couple of weeks.
