Nurdlinger mentioned his affinity for the National Lampoon.
I started buying the Lampoon back in the early 70's, while I was in college. Still have the issues. Memorable features include the Refrigerator Rally, The Wide World of Meat, the Boredom issue (complete with a full page of Boredom Stamps), the coronation of Dick Nixon with a crown made up of corporate logos (nicely done in metal and enamel) and ceremonial annointing with oil from Alaska's North Slope, the Death issue ("If you don't buy this magazine, we'll kill this dog"), etc etc etc. No part of the human race or society was safe from the Lampoon's witty barbs. I suppose it gave me - or at least reinforced - a somewhat warped view of the world, but it did keep me out of trouble, mostly. ;-)
There was even a "Pumping Iron" mock mag, cover had photo Arnold Schwarzenegger posing in a nice floral print apron ironing something frilly. I understand he was not amused by the result.
