need advice: 1991 Maytag dryer

I have a '91 Maytag dryer, Model. No. DE7500, which has worked flawlessly for years. However, yesterday morning, it failed for the first time. Here is my question: at what point do you replace instead of repair. I am sure that nothing I could buy would equal that dryer, but don't want to sink a lot of money into it either. My local servicer, a family-type dealer, told me it was probably one of the thermostats...a relatively cheap repair. My gut feeling is to repair it, but just wanted some advice from some of the most expert people I know....you guys...

If you do it yourself and find the right part the first time, it could be anything from $60.00 downward for an element or thermostat.

The element is encased in a big hollow "stove pipe" on the right lower side of the machine. It is easy to see if it is the element.

If you have a service call expect $135.00

Are you happy with the function of the machine, when it works properly? Is there anything you would change in a replacement?

If the answers are no and yes, you have the real capital A answer.

Wouldn't change a thing...thanks for the advice. Guess that is what I needed...an affirmation of my decision. I'm gonna have it repaired....don't have the skills myself to do it. I thought the 'tag element was in a different place than most. I remembered that the placement was one of the things that made Maytag different, with "gentle" heat. Thanks again.

You should be able to get a good 30 years out of that dryer with very few if any repairs....don't even THINK of replacing it! Mark
