On how to keep washer from vibrating. My home sits on top of a crawl space and was built in 1957. So the flooring in the laundry room isn’t that great. So what I thought was the solution was to put two wood blocks between the dryer and washer in opposite sides using the wall and furnace as supports. This helps tremendously with vibration. Unfortunately the block is indenting the side of the washer. Obviously this method is frowned upon but I’m not sure what else to do except live with it.

The washer is level and rubber vibration pads don’t work. I will post some pictures later on. I will show a video of the washer vibrating without any supports.

In one of those pictures it looks like you have a dark piece of fabric between the block of wood and the wall. If that helps with the vibration what would happen if you used silicone pads on both sides of the block of wood?

Silicone

If I did that it would be too tight a fit. That’s actually an anti vibration pad between the block and wall. That helps keeps the wall from getting scratched.

Vibrating automatic washer on a wooden floor

Normally, if you can feel vibration standing in front of the machine when the machine is spinning, the floor is not strong enough also if there’s A dryer next to it and the dryer is vibrating while the washer is spinning that’s another sign. The floor is not up to snuff.

Best thing to do is to glue and screw at least three-quarter inch plywood underneath the washer to the floor put down as big, a piece of plywood as you can get in the area put screws every 4 in.², if the dryer is next to the washer, the same piece of wood should completely extend under the dryer to give additional stability use screws long enough to get into The floor, Joyce underneath the flooring.

Plywood

John, that’s probably what I’ll end up doing. What you described is exactly what happens. Even if I move the washer two feet away from the dryer it still vibrates. Would your solution still work even with a naturally unlevel floor?

So-called anti-vibration footpads

these cushioning foot pads will slightly reduce the vibration transmitted into floors. They actually cause the machines to vibrate considerably more and may cause damage to the machines themselves.

I have never seen them particularly effective. I’ve seen a lot of people try to use them however, and they usually end up removing them fairly soon.

Vibration pads

You are correct. I had purchased some of those right when I got my house and noticed the issue. As you know I am a perfectionist and I figured the machine would be better off without them.

I will be securing the area with a large plywood to aid the subfloor. Hopefully that will resolve the issue. I will ensure it is at least 3/4” thick and Nailed into the floor joists.

Completed

Had the plywood installed today. Things are significantly better, but I still get some vibration. Leveling the dryer is a tad more difficult, but the washer is what I really cared about.  This solution isn't visually appealing, but its probably the best solution.
