need help from Maytag experts

Both of my Maytags drain into a laundry sink. One's drain hose hooks over the sink edge. The second one's drain hose won't stay, so I have hooked a piece of plastic sink pipe to it so it can drain right into the sink at the bottom. I had plugged the sink to catch the water from the hooked one's load. The second one started agitating and I noticed that the water level continued to rise. It was "backwashing"?? the water from the sink into the machine. Did I discover a method to create the suds-saver from nothing? Will doing what I have described harm the second machine? I sure would like to keep doing this, as water rates here are going to increase by 15% at the end of the month........

Yes, you are suds-saving without any special equipment. Maytag washer pumps run in reverse during agitation to keep the water in the machine. it also creates suction in the drain hose, so if it's submerged in water it will backwash into the machine's washtub. Very clever!!!!!!!!!!!
