I live in Miami and had a guy come in to replace the thermostat back in 2005. Not easy to find anyone with the skills, or the patience to find parts. I understand if the control box has a "Q" in the serial or model number, that is no longer available, so you have to try a generic replacement.

But maybe it's the heating element issue as well, I dunno, it does not seem to glow red hot like it used to, but the oven still heats up to 450 degrees (measured on oven thermometer)

Anybody know a repair guy in the South Florida region? Thanks for any suggestions!

Q was the Westinghouse prefix for their parts. If the bake element is not glowing, the broil element is heating the oven on its own, but it is only using about 750 watts since during bake it operates on 120 volts which drops the wattage to a quarter and you won't get good baking with only top heat. The bake element should be disconnected from its power wires and checked for continuity. If it needs to be replaced, and a Westinghouse element is not available, there are generic elements available that will fit. As new as the thermostat is, I would expect the problem is the bake element. It is a simpler place to start checking.

I wish you the best of luck.

Bake Elements

I had no problem replacing the bake element on my mom's '49 Westinghouse several years ago.  I recommend taking your existing element to a local independent appliance parts house that's willing to help you out, not some big chain like Marcone that will tell you the part is too old and to basically get lost.
