I've finally found some time to replace the pump on this. I cant fiqure out how to get the "top" off, and subsequently, to get the surround off. I've unscrewed the back "hinges".

I understand from previous threads that these are built first and then the surrounds and tops added.

I took off the temp and water level knobs, but can't get the programme knob off.

Please lend me your experience...

Guy

Since the top of the machine is hinge attached on the rear I would be lead to believe that the top of the machine is held down by 2 retaining clips along the front side of the machine. This would be the same setup they use on the full size machines. Normally you would open the lid to the machine, grab a hold of the top just inside the opening to the tub and give the top a quick jerk upwards to unlatch the front clips. Or try putting a screwdriver along the front of the machine into the seam between the top and body of the cabinet and wedging it open till the clips pop lose.

You may give that a shot an see if that gets you headed inside the machine.

Ultramatic has one of these (Whirlpool model) He may possibly be able to give you some help or guide you to the person who would be able to.

Good luck!

stop where you are.....

pop the top.....from the right front, find and unplug the timer control wires leading down to the bottom.....disconnect the inlet hose from the splash shield.....disconnect the drain hose from the port at the back, there will also be a retaining screw/strap towards the front...remove the hose to the pressure switch.....

lower the top back down.......and remove 2 screws at the bottom on each side, and two on the back.....you may need help, now, lift the whole body off the machine.....

this will allow you to service the unit....you can also hang the wires over top and reconnect if you want to test the machine with it uncovered...

any problems....let us know...

we just did this to JammanJoe's machine at Jerry's wash-in.....check out reply number 16....pics 8 and 9
