Need some help with my Norge Wringer

While cleaning my Norge washer I am unable to remove the agitator.  It seems to have seized to the drive shaft.  Any advice as to how to remove the agitator.  I have used WD-40 and Krill oil with no luck.

Also, the best model # that I can make out is WWE-1500 and serial # 5 0r F 0r E before the numbers 221484.  There may be another number or two at the end of the serial number but I am unable to make them out.  Where do I go to find out year made and repair parts and possibly the complete model and serial numbers.   Thanks for your help.  Tommy

Suggestion - check a parts diagram first (if available)...

I would be curious first to discover if the drive block has angled sides (like a Speed Queen or Whirlpool/Kenmore), or straight sides like that of the old gray Maytag models 90/A/30/32.

Drive blocks with straight sides tend to be more of a challenge in loosening. I assume you've removed the top screw cap and squirted some penetrating oil inside. Gentle persistence is the key to these challenges - you don't want to break the agitator in the process.

Agi-Tamer has been used by many for removing agitators

.....search the archives, there are plenty of ideas for removing stuck agitators.....

last and worst case would be to break it off......

Breaking the agitator off is out of the question, but thanks anyway.  Will try more penetrating oil ( any suggestions on brand) and let it soak for a couple of days.  Will also look into the archives for further guidance and suggestions.  I have never heard of an "Agi-Tamer".  Where do you find one of those if that becomes necessary?  Thank you for your response and help.  Tommy

Stuck Agitator

Upon further inspection I have noticed a slight flare to the top 2" of the agitator.  Does this increase or decrease my chances of getting the thing off or make no difference?

And here is the rest of the story.  <My wife wanted to dye some burlap for a project of hers.  A deep burgundy color.  After several washes one with Tide Washing Machine Cleaner, there is still color bleeding out from the agitator.  Thus the need for removal.  I have since banned my wife from even looking at the machine.

No need for an Agi-Tamer unless you want to spend money on something you'll likely use once....

Search the archives for "stuck" "Maytag" "Agitator" and you'll find how myself and others managed to remove Maytag wringer washer agitators that wouldn't budge off shaft. All that is required is a length of board, some rope/cord and lots of patience along with strength.

What has happened to your machine is fairly common; the agitator was not removed after use and or routinely lubricated. As such it has become "glued" to the metal shaft/spline. This happens often where also agitator is not removed after wash day and tub allow to air dry before it goes back on.

Unless you happen to have another spare, you'll want to take care in how you get the stuck agitator off. Once the deed is done take steps in future to prevent it from happening again.

Other reason not to rush out and purchase an agi-tamer is (IIRC) the thing won't work if the agitator in question is flush with tub. That is with many top loaders there is a gap between base of agitator and tub. The Maytag and SQ conventional washers have agitators where the base is more flush with bottom of tub and or "sediment trap" lip.

Norge wringer

Found a used appliance dealer who rented me his Agi-Tamer.  Came home and slid that puppy under the agitator and put the water to it.  After some popping sounds that agitator popped off the shaft with a bang.  After a couple of hours of cleaning the bottom around the bolts and the drive block of years and years of sediment and lint that had turned into rocks, a sock that had seen better days and a penny for my troubles Bobbie Sue was looking good.  What better way to spend a Saturday?  Honestly, I loved every minute of it.  I have pictures to post when I have a moment.  Thank you guys for your humor and advice.
