Need to Date and looking for part Kenmore Fabric Master

Hi,

New to the forums here. I have what I think is a 1967 Kenmore Fabric Master? it is 110.6818600A00 Serial number 10336M738. I'm hoping to confirm the date of the machine and hopefully find a Heater Thermostat part number 689936 for it. Thought I had found the part on eBay but he could not locate it in his inventory.

At this time I am unable to post pics of it since I have it taken apart for some interior painting. It's a beautiful Avocado Green with an Angled Control Console with a sliding Aluminum door to keep the controls clean.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Kevin, is this the thermostat at the bottom of the heater box [ assuming  the dryer is electric ] if so does it have 2 or 3 wires attaching to it ?

 

If it is an electric dryer it would be a 290F safety thermostat and a replacement is easy to find.

 

Do you need any other parts for this dryer ?

Yes it was built in 1967. This model was only made for a couple of years.

Thank you for replying. It is the thermostat at the bottom of the heater box, it has 3 wires to it, the dryer is also electric. I'm unsure what part to substitute for it since I'm normally able to find an OEM one. I've never dealt with a machine this old. As for other parts I might end up needing a control but have to wait till everything is painted and put back together. Also on my wish list is a manual, parts list and an advertisement or two.

Thank you for the confirmation on the year. Is this dyer's name "Fabric Master" or was that just a generic phrase they put on it?

"Fabric Master" was the name for the automatic drying control system on the Kenmore dryers, IIRC.  I remember also seeing "Soft Heat" on some models (70s models).

Hi Kevin, Fabric Master was referring to the auto dry system this dryer used, this dryer uses a Time-Temperature combination to tell when the clothes load is dry, a system still widely used today.

 

Higher end KM dryers were already using an electronic sensor system when your dryer was built. as far as finding ads for this dryer about the best thing is old Sears catalogues, Sears did not do as much magazine advertising as many appliance manufactures did in this time period to promote their products.

 

I will try to remember to look and see if I have a thermostat for your dryer today.

The model number indicates the dryer is a 1968 model, so it must have been manufactured during the last quarter of 1967.
