Neptune Woes

Last week while visiting my parents, I found out the washer wasn't spin drying the clothes. It would do all the rinses, and everything else, except the final spin. It will turn over the clothes both ways, but when it 'kicks' in to do the final spin, it makes a wierd noise, sits for a few minutes, then turns over the clothes some more.

Is she looking at a new motor, or is this a control board problem? Oh yeah, this is one of the first Neptune models, from 97-98 without the touch screen. Thanks for the help!

Could be a door lock problem if it starts to spin and then shuts down. Motor control board and machine control board are also suspect if the door lock checks out OK. There are several micro-switches in the door lock mechanism, touchy little buggers can mess up everything!

neptune woes

all of the modern front-loaders tumble the clothes a bit to distribute the load ,the quickly ramp up speed. If there are only one or two items ,they may get confused, so to speak, and may not go into spin. I know, I know, it is SO annoying.

FL Load Balancing

I've found that if I'm washing one or two items in a front-loader, adding a few small towels will help to balance the load for spinning. This mechanism can be sensitive - even if washing one t-shirt.

Door swtiches

I know all of the switches check out good, as I have tested those myself. I was hoping it would be the board and not the motor. It just makes this really funny noise though.... thanks guys.

Neptune spin problem

Two things that you could have a problem with: #1 off balance switch open, there are usually three or four of them, one on side of tub one on bottom of lower tub weight and one on strut, there is also a mass switch on the board and tub that sense vibration. If you follow the wiring from the switches they are wired in series and plug in near the top of the machine where you can do a resistance check on all of them at one time. The other problem is the door lock wax motor, if the lock light won't come on it is bad and it burned out the r-11 resistor on the machine control board which means new wax motor and board. good luck

Why couldn't you just replace the r-11 resistor and wax motor? Why a new board?

Is that the only component to be effected by WMF=wax motor failure?

Don't forget one other thing. The door latch/control board is a common problem. But the neptune uses a stretch belt and an extremely fast spinning motor. Is the noise like a screech? The belt may be stretched, the drum isn't getting up to speed properly, the washer "sees" this and puts it back to tumble mode. Just a guess, something to check out.
