Who has tried it?

Do you like it? Have you had any trouble with it?

I am thinking about the second level, the one disc at a time unlimited per month choice.

The public library (closest) has dvds that circulate at no cost, but I've watched all the good ones (not many.)

The nearest Blockbuster(ugh) and Family Video (double ugh) are about three miles from here, and not easy to reach on the bus.

So, that's why I am thinking Netflix.

I'm happy with NetFlix. Their HQ is walking distance from my home and I am all about supporting local businesses. My partner opted for the 3-disc plan which I think is overkill but hey, he's paying.

They've got a pretty good system going and there's never much of a wait for the next disc in your queue to arrive. If you don't want any gaps in your supply of discs you might opt for the plan where you can have 2 discs out at a time. That way you send one back and you still have another one to watch before the next disc arrives. Just depends on how often you like to sit down and watch a movie.

We've had some discs sit at home for a couple of weeks before getting around to watching them. I like that there is no deadline to return them. We've never had a single problem with our service.

Also, if it makes any difference, a recent article in the local paper focused on the fact that at NetFlix there is no tracking of vacation time for management employees. They can take as much as they want as long as they are getting their job done. Who wouldn't want to support a cool company like that?

I've also seen special offers from NetFlix for new subscribers in those packs of coupons that come in the mail so you may want to watch for one of those too.

Netflix

Joined last year with the 1 at a time along with the 16 hour view now. The view now is unlimited and over 6,000 moives and growing. Pretty god viewing but depends on internet speed. With us we usually have one a week on the mailin movie. Good service. I just can't go to a movie theater anymore. Algeric to all the perfume's being worn. Last time I went had to leave and eyes were almost swollen too.

Just love it

My partner and I have been using Netflix for several months now. We have the 2 disc plan and it works well with our schedules. We've been talking about upgrading, but hey, he's paying for it, so why not upgrade, right? The best part is that you don't have to go the video store to get really good movies.... just select the ones you want to view online. When you're done viewing, mail the DVD back. In 3-4 days later, another arrives in the mail. What could be simplier?

Redbox

Recently I have been using Redbox, I usually only rent one movie per week. It is $1.00 per day. So that's $4.00 per month (plus tax). You can log in at home to see what they have and reserve it than zip down there and pick it up.

New and newer releases only and a fairly limited supply.

Sometimes someone will be standing there and looking at the available titles for about 15 minutes and get nothing, so that can be frustrating.

Redboxes are located in grocery stores and Walmart.

Love Netflix

I'm currently taking a break from Netflix, but love it.

I've always had the three disk at a time plan. It's easy, convenient and the turn around time is very fast. (I have to add a caveat that I live in a major metropolitan area. I don't know what the turn around time would be in a more rural area.) Besides the convenience and ease of use, I really like the fact that you can create a queue of movies you want to watch and forget about it, or you can go in at any time and change the order, delete movies, and add new ones to your list. They have an incredible library and I found it to be a great opportunity to see movies I wouldn't otherwise see. You can also share your list with friends, which is a great way to discover movies you would otherwise never know existed. The site also recommends movies based on your viewing habits and the movies you select. Personally, I like the three at a time option, because it means there are always movies in rotation. You don't have to watch all three at once and then return them together. And, since they created the concept, I prefer to give them my business rather than Blockbuster. I believe Netflix also has a broader selection--certainly of the gay genre.

I've had it for over 4 years and really like it. 3 discs at a time. I'm not the type that's going to drive to a store, pick a movie and then have to drive back to return it, so it's perfect for me and the only way the movies get rented.

I also forgot to mention that they have quite a selection, a lot of things you'd probably never find in most stores, especially chains. I've used it to see many movies I'd heard of throughout life but had never seen, wasn't old enough to see at the time, or whatever the case. I think it's a good value for the money, and certainly for someone who doesn't drive I think it would be a welcome convenience.

Years ago (pre-DVD time) I had a membership with Home Film Festival (they no longer exist). They had a nice library of foreign and "art" fare which I greatly enjoyed. It was expensive (yearly membership, plus per-tape rental which included return-postage), but worked much the same as Netflix otherwise. I've not gotten into Netflix, have enough DVDs bought/gifted that I haven't yet watched (all of DS9 for example) ... but I'm sure I'd enjoy it. However, RJ received a six-month membership as a Christmas gift from a coworker and I imagine he'll keep it up.

I used netflix when I first came out years ago and loved it. I stopped for quite a few years, really don't recall why -- I haven't been watching that many movies until recently. Had HBO so I watch what they showed.

Anyway just bought an HD DVD player and Netfix has 400-500 HD movies for me to choose from, so I'm Od'ing on movies again. Most I get at the moment are HD but some are SD. I've got the 2 at a time plan, and turnaround time is about 2 days - I mailed one yesterday, they got it toady and shipped out he next, I'll get it tomorrow.

No complaints.
