our appliances was fun thing to do! my aunt used to spend much energy keeping her 1965 custom imperial washer looking like new! she never would use the liquid detergent and fabric softner cup dispensor as she didn't want it to get dirty!

the cycle

sequence,

my first one was much quicker. the main wash was only 6 mintes and rinses were 1 1/2 minutes. can't remember if the first pre rinse (prewash) was 6 mintes or not. too long ago!

the spray arm was unique looking

in that it had slits instead of holes.

the back of the booklet

had the warranty. it should have added the footnote
"keep curious teenage boys away from this machine for continued
troublefree operation".

it's the dishwasher i never thought i'd own again! i really feel it's a christmas gift from my aunt and uncle who were there to watch me tinker with it for nearly 2 years!

thanks mary and jess! or mom, maybe you sent it, after all, you showed me my very first dishwasher when you used to take me to work with you at the norwood public school cafeteria! i got my first taste of dishwashing equipment from you! hobart commercial style!

it was kept from popping off the top of the pump by riding up against the center spray tube during wash phases. it was not locked to the pump in any way and easily lifts off.

it has a very large

wash impeller mounted to the motor shaft with a large center bolt.

the pump bottom has six cuts in the side of it that the impeller slings water into

six cut outs in the metal part of the top pump half.

thus the water is lifted thru the pump

To this day, I am reminded of this dishwasher--had it in the very first apartment I lived in as a college studenty in the fall of 1974--kitchens were probably 5-8 years oldr. I have a set of glasses my best friend from high school's mother gave me as a congrats for me moving to my apartment. The tea glasses were pretty tall and they only fit precilesly one way in the top rack. One of my dinner guests decided they wanted to "help" me by helping with the dishes--I didn't observe the glasses being put in (smaller ones looked the same too). I broke two that weren't in their correctly as I pushed the top rack in. So, every time I see those only 6 of 8 tea glasses, I think of this dishwasher.

it is not the most

powerful by any means. it is a 1/3 h.p. and 1725 r.p.m. that always surprised me. kitchenaid and even d&m models used a 3450 r.p.m. motor by the mid sixties.

it has it's drian pump built into the top of the motor and attaches to a lip on the dishwasher sump by a rubber sleeve and 2 large clamps.

the bottom drain pump impeller

that sits on top of the water seal and the wash impeller stem sits on top of it.

this one pictured is not the one off my dishwasher. it is an extra that i picked up from larry in parma and use as a wall decoration.

later drain pump impellers had food chopper blades attached to their top side. my 1972 hotpoint will have those. this impeller pictured is from the earlier models and it lacked this chopper addition.

center spray tube on these machines!

my first one had a half spray arm attached to the top of that spray tube instead of the blue ball. it even had a control valve that you turned to increase or decrease the spray.
