Call it a moment of weakness, but last year when I saw this machine sitting on the sales floor of the Sears Outlet store here in Charlotte, I had to have it. The price was $199.95, new, never used, but it had had some sort of repair. Turns out, a dent was banged out on the cabinet, which I think was the issue.

As soon as I found this, I found a NIB matching Kenmore 600 dryer at another Sears outlet, and it is still in box. For whatever reason, I wanted one of the last truly nice, well-featured DD machines with two speed agitation, no funky rinse fill, a nice snow-white basket, the giant lid, etc. So I figured for 200 bucks I'd get it. If family or friends need a washer in the future and want something "old fashioned", I think I may let this one out for borrow.

I just picked up the machine on Thursday. When I went to pick it up last fall, there was an issue with the rear leveling legs. Sears ordered parts, and I said I'd pick it up when they came in. Parts got lost. Then, the holidays came and I was WAY BUSY. Machine in the meantime gets burried in the store room by about 40-80 dishwashers for an apartment complex. They delivered in February, and I finally got off my posterior and had my truck AND my dolly cart two days ago to grab this.

Following are a few pics. The machine is as yet unused, however I tried it empty and all functions work (WOW does the motor make that 'new' smell after a few minutes! I have heard that in recent DD washer consumer reviews too). Its not a NIB vintage belt-drive, but I like it!

For good measure, here are a few pics of my 1993 Kenmore 70 direct drive washer.

This is still for the most part almost a virgin machine (Ok Kevin we'll say it is VERY lightly used, but still used...is that better? LOL). I used it for less than 200 loads in between 1993 and 1997, then replaced it in my last house (in the garage) by my rebuilt 1985 Kenmore 80 belt-drive which I call "Robo-Washer". This DD then spend the next 9 years dormant, maybe used once or twice. In late 2006 I brought it in the house, and used it as my daily driver from then until April 2008. It had been used so little prior to that when I did several loads back to back after bringing it inside, I noticed a similar new motor break-in smell that I mentioned above.

I like this machine, and came to respect the DD line much more after using it.

As you can see, there are some nasty dents in the top. This was a delivery mishap, and it was in the scratch 'n dent room at Sears before they had outlets. I put on a new lid and worked on the console as much as I could. Long story on the acquisition, but I have come to really like this machine, in fact I think it will be re-installed in the garage soon for some more use, as it has been sitting for nearly 4 years again. I think it probably has about 500 to 600 loads "on the clock" total, which is nothing.

One interesting thing about the 1993 era DDs - they were the first to have the Heavy Duty cycle and the Normal which incorporated slow speed agitation. In the timer after the HD cycle is a second rinse provision, but I can't recall a machine that I've ever seen which actually had the second rinse as a live cycle. Anyone?

Gordon what a great find Boka Boka Boka !
And a great price, What do you mean a second rinse as a live cycle ?
Meaning gonig in a second rinse automatically ?
The slimmer softner dipensers are nicer looking dont you think..
Purdy white basket.
Nice man.

Very cool machines G-man....

And it's ABOUT TIME you picked that other one up!   LOL

Waiting for the Dueling DD video............ tap... tap...tap

And.... 200 loads a "virgin machine"??   I think not.   Virgin is just that, virgin, never used.   You popped it's cherry with the first load!

(ducks & runs..........)

"A live second rinse cycle"

Thanks Darren - what I mean by a live second rinse is that in this model and many others, the second rinse is present in the timer (its that big gray "off" section after the Heavy Duty cycle), but it is dead, non-wired, non-useable.

Kenmore has done that often over the years, having a giant 'OFF' where a second rinse or a Pre-Wash is, and they charge $20 more for the model which has the live, useful cycle over the model which has all the provisions but the cycle is dead.

I'll find you another example and post it here.

Kevin - Yes it is about time I got this. I am working on my list of things to do. Are YOU? :-) :-) ;-) (Oh yeah, I altered my wording above to better suit you, but go ahead and keep ducking for a while...

I'm heading out now to go spend some time cleaning a Lady Kenmore that followed me home all by itself somehow just now...
