Well they arrived this morning about 830 and finished up at 445. Just in time because it's in the 80's and muggy
I hummed and hawed over 3 estimates and the Mitsubishi had the best warranty although was slightly high priced BUT it also has a variable speed compressor (inverter) and can run from 5000 BTU up to 22,000 BTU depending on requirements. Boy does it cool fast too and it's very very quiet which is nice. The outdoor unit is almost silent. I had to walk right up to it to tell if it was running.
So here's the outdoor part

From farther afield . Unlike the older unit this one has vanes that you can control with the remote.. up/down in 5 stages or auto swing.. and left to right etc in 5 stages or auto swing. So it really shoots the air around

I thought I was having trouble with it

It had been running a few hours now and I thought how come it's not as cold in here as it should be for the size of the unit.. it wasn't shutting down at all. Then I went down to the basement for something and whoa it was hotter than hades down there.. into the furnace room and the boiler is going along with the pump... I'd never thought to turn it off or to turn the thermostat right down and the new a/c was blasting cold air right on it and firing it up for heat.

Heating and cooling at the same time. This is too funny!
I like the fact that the unit is modulating - should save a lot of energy. Do you know if this unit has a SEER rating? Not sure but it looks like it is cooling one open space. Do you have mutliple rooms to cool? Could you put additional evaporator units in other rooms and connect it to the condenser outside?

So by now how is the unit cooling?

You live in Bluewaterland? Where is this?

Very nice unit / units.

Does every room have it's own thermostat? I have always been interested in this type of cooling!

I love your story about the boiler running! Classic. I bet you got a good laugh on yourself! Sounds like something I would do.

Sleep nice an cool tonight!

There are various types of setups you can purchase. Some are cooling only, some are heatpumps. You can also buy models with more than one cooling head (I only got the one) and they all run off the same outdoor condensor and each is seperately controllable. There are also different types of units other than the wall units like mine.. there are ones that mount flush into the ceiling (called cassettes) and there are even some that mount in the floor. They can get quite expensive when you start adding each part.. but then if you don't have a forced air furnace it could be cheaper than replacing it and adding ductwork.
There isn't any wall thermostat,, it's all operated with a remote control. You just set the temp you want on the remote and operate all the other functions as well.
My main floor kitchen/dining/livingroom is all open with only 8 ft half walls so the air from the unit mounted over the stairs flows across the whole space.. plus all that cold air drops down the two short flights of stairs into the family/laundry room and keeps that area cool as well. It doesn't cool the bedrooms upstairs but I have a couple of portable a/c's for that which work well. I guess I could have bit the bullet and bought a larger system with more heads for up there but it would have been really pricey. Besides we never go up there much during the day.. just switch on the two portables 20 minutes before bed and the whole floor is pretty much cooled down.

Oh Bluewaterland isn't a real place just a generic term for the whole region around the tip of Lake Huron in Ontario/Michigan,, I'm in Sarnia Ont. about an hour upriver from Detroit..

How's Your Retirement Fund?

Golly, new floors, paint and now a cooling system. What's next, exciting new breaker panel or a stylish water heater? Its nice to have quality mechanicals but they're never as much fun as new furniture or the stuff you see and set on. Hopefully you're set for a while. Cool house!

I've been thinking of having one of those installed in my master bedroom when my window A/C gives out. I'm glad that the reviews are positive. Looks nice too. I was thinking that the outside unit could be mounted on the roof on my house facing the back yard.

Split system A/C is the norm here in Italy and lately almost everybody has one or more installed. The prices fell sharply with loads of Chinese made stuff. If it bears "A" class everybody is going to buy it (A class starts at 3,20 EER for cooling) but fortunately Mitsubishi Electric is a very reliable brand!
We're going to exchange our current units this winter because of obsolescence (they run on R22 and it's hard to find if we need a top-up) as they were installed 10 years ago. They still run nicely but instead of having 3 monosplit units we're going to put a single 4 split unit, either Panasonic or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (not Mitsubishi Electric) plus the EER will jump from 2,83 to 4,1-4,3! Think about the savings!

I have these units in my house in the uk, I have 4 indoor units off one outdoor unit. I have a mixture of wall mount and low floor mounted units which fit at the bottom half of the wall.

We mainly have them for heating but the cooling in summer is great.

I know you mention you have a furnace but do you think you will use it for heating as well? Prob cheaper than running your furnace actually.

I do think you may run into problems though with that wall that is in front of the unit, particulary in heating as the vane is pointing down at the floor in heating so the wall may block the flow of air.

I have seen these kinds of units in the Caribbean and in Costa Rica before. They really do cool well.
Do you have radiant heat in your home? These are a nice alternative if you don't have duct work for forced air.

Mine is a cooling model only so no problem there. He tried to sell me on the heat/cool model but our heating system (natural gas boiler, baseboard radiant) does a fine job and doesn't cost a lot to heat this house plus with only one unit it wouldn't be enough to heat all 4 floors.

Glad to hear you got the new system installed, just in time for the heat. I have a similiar unit and it works great. Mine is made by Climate Aire. I also could have gotten the cool/heating combination as well as up to 4 indoor fan units. I have mine installed in the bedroom because I can take the heat/humidity during the day but it is when I sleep that it has to be cool. The system is powerful enough though that it cools the entire main floor. I just have a tower fan in the hallway to blow the cooler air from the bedroom to the main living area.

Split Air Con - Splits are the main type in Aust.

We have the Panasonic Inverter spilts in our apartment.
Our strata plan bylaws only allow Fujitsu, Dakin or Panasonic Invert Air Cons.
A small (1hp) in the bedroom that runs on a standard 10amp power point This is used year round for heating & cooling... Works brilliantly & doent seem to add too much to the power $$$.
In the lounge/ living room (westerly facing/ Afternoon summer sun with wall to wall glass) we have another Panasonic Split inverter (2hp) that is brilliant again it maintains a good temp in a huge space over 100 square meters. We would not look at any other manufacturer.

CHOICE mag always recommned Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, Panasonic & Dakin, although Dakin is renown for being VERY PRICEY!!
