This beauty popped up 35 minutes away for $100! Judging from the very small amount of rust at the bottom edge of the cabinet, I decided it was worth taking a look! There was no picture of the interior, but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the lid! Filter tray, bleach cup, and agi-cap were all present and in pretty good shape! The machine was covered in a layered of dust and grime, but it polished up pretty well! It also runs beautifully!

The seller bought the house recently and is remodeling it to turn into an Air BnB. The machine was in the basement which has no access from inside the house. He said the house was split up into 2 apartments at some point and doesn’t think the tenants had access to the laundry room in the basement. So, this washer likely sat for a number of years unused!

Curious about the age, I’m guessing late 70s? It’s missing a foot, but the noteworthy thing was that this machine has plastic feet! Not something I’m used to seeing on a machine from the 70s.

WOW

It looks like NEW!  You did the perfect job of cleaning it up.

Our neighbors in the 70s had this washer and matching electric dryer.  Though I don't know if it had the window.  They had it in their carpeted kitchen as they had no basement.

I don't know if it's standard but the drain hose is like a smaller diameter compared to a Whirlpool.  It's like 1" for the FD vs 1.5" for the WP.

Good for you for jumping on this so quick.

a trip down memory lane...

This looks just like the washer my Host Mom had when I was an exchange student in 1981/82 in the outer suburbs of Chicago.

My Host Dad worked for GM at a locomotive plant, so got staff discount on Frigidaire appliances.

She was very happy with the washer and its matching dryer. Everything I put into it came out spotlessly clean.

Her washer didn't have the window in the lid but I think otherwise it was the same, in white.

Thanks for posting this, Jamie.

WOWZERS...

CONGRATULATIONS!

That Frigidaire 1-18 sure does sparkle.
And you got a windowed-lid to boot! That is too cool man!

WOOOOO HOOOOOO!!
Doing the HAPPY DANCE for you on this side of the computer!

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!
😃😊🥳

Late 70s FD 1-18 Washer

Nice find Jamie

The plastic feet were advanced for the time but I always said that the FD 1-18 washer were about 10 yers ahead of most other washers when they came out engineering wise.

I can't remember what year WP started putting plastic front feet on their BD washers but it was a big improvement as well.

John, our LDA7800W2 (and all revisions) had plastic front leveling legs.

LAA7800W0/1 apparently does not per parts look-up, but LAA7800W2/3/4 does.  LAA7700W0/1 does not but LAA7700W2 does.  LAA5700 does for all versions so maybe segue to plastic occurred during LAA production?  LXA5300 apparently is not plastic.

Not unusual that I'm all wrong ...
