Afternoon Friends,

I haven't posted in awhile so i thought i would send you pictures of my latest refrigerator finds. I have kind of switched gears back to my original antique refrigerator roots. So enjoy. I got the Kelvinator for $250. and the Westinghouse for $100. Prices are just for reference, to let people know what you can get for a decent price. All off craigslist classifieds.

Here you go friend...

Here are the interior pics. The Westinghouse is missing the freezer door and the Kelvinator is missing a shelf, but i still think they are great....im kinda obsessed with old belt driven refrigerators. They are awesome!!!

Thanks Graham. That Westy is very roomy inside. I'll bet it's real quiet when it runs too. The freezer door might be nice to have for looks, but not having one won't effect operation and it's not like you're going to seriously use the freezer anyway.

My smaller Westy of similar vintage was an awesome fridge and during the infrequent periods over the years when it wasn't in use, it never developed any funky smells inside. Mine had the cold control in the top of the lower access panel. It was a big wheel type of thing. I wonder if your fridge is older or newer with the more conventional looking cold control up at the top. Can you find a model number? The last two digits should indicate the model year. Mine was model H-3-39.

Both machines are great finds. I'm glad they found a safe place where they'll be treated well.

Great finds!

Graham, I'm jealous of the Kelvinator. Email me privately and I'll send you a pdf I made of the 1938 Westinghouse catalog. Also, if you've got the model numbers of the machines I can date them for you.

Westy

Very nice refrigerators - everyone. They look like they're in great shape.

It's fun to imagine the day these were delivered to their new homes, the anticipation and excitement of the still new technology coming in the door. My relatives used to talk about "the day the radio, refrigerator, range, even the electricity itself" came to their homes and how excited they were.

Heya

Heya Bygted, yes mine is all porcelain exterior and interior, as well as the kelvinator

Westinghouse Model # FPS-60
Style 991035
Ser-WA 230974

Kelvinator
Serial #1175136

That Westy model number isn't the familiar configuration of the '39 (H3-39) and '49 (D9-49) machines I've had. We all know the fridge isn't vintage 1960. Maybe someone who has the info will chime in here with year of manufacture. My guess is that your fridge is more mid- rather than late-30's.
