New AEG styling for their toploaders

A while ago AEG came out with a new styling for the control panels of their frontloaders. On the IAA the new line of toploaders was also introduced. One of the models appeared now on the German website. It looks like the new styling is slowly introduced. Here are the pictures and the link to the German website. Scroll down for the toploaders.

If you scroll down much further (click a few times on "Mehr Produkte anzeigen) there are some new white on white models (lower end models) too. There are some more detailed pictures, including a money shot.

Quite like the new styling, and the lower end model even spins at 1400rpm an has the more aceptabke cycle times.

Only the drum padle seems rather useless to me.

I was wondering about that myself. It looks very shallow indeed - there can't be much laundry agitation turnover.

Do these toploaders always have such a shallow paddle/lifter?

My mother had a Zanker, I think it was from around 2005. It had the same paddle design. I have used it a few times. It sounded like there was some good tumbling going on. Don't forget that the diameter is somewhat larger than on frontloaders of a similar capacity to compensate for it's narrowness. So the design of the drum paddle is not new. It must work then, these machines achieve good cleaning results.

Shallow paddle, no paddle

Seem to recall this concept is not new; spend hours reading the archives while scheming to acquire the AEG toploader and seem to recall at least one other machine only had at least one paddle. It wasn't that great in size either from what one remembers of thread.

Purpose of the paddles in a h-axis washer is to facilitate lift and drop. If this can be done with designs other than standard three or more good sized vanes, so be it.

Yeah, centrifugal forces are great

Which helps rollover. Few other reasons are that the drum lid kind of ads lift as well and that the paddle is bigger and actually weighted to counteract the weight of the lid mechanism.

Oh, and now that I think of it, I think that some models actually have paddles right beside the tub opening which are basicly unspottable from a top down view.

Oops! Silly me - I forgot about the mass of the lid mechanism altering the drum dynamics.
