Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Wow...well, the once-distant dream of owning a Hoover Constellation has finally come true!!! And a BRAND-NEW 843 no less...after posting the "Looking for a Connie" thread, Fred sent me an email telling me that he was "thinning out the herd" and had an 843 he could send down South. He put a new handle on it (the old one was yellowed), cleaned it up, and, well, here it is, complete with accessories! The pictures don't to it justice...it's absolutely MINT!!!

Here she is, straight from the showroom and ready to clean...I'll definitely be looking in the closet for a while...just to make sure I'm not dreaming!!! :)

Fred, I can't even thank you enough for this BEAUTY!!!! It will not go unreturned either...if there are any vacuums you want me to keep an eye out for or if there's something I have that I could send your way, let me know!!!!

Congratulations Austin! Very nice vintage vacuum, and in a great 1960's color too! Have fun with that. (:

More pictures!

Here are more Connie pictures I posted in my album.

After I unpacked it and wiped it off, I put a "modern" Type J bag in and fired her up! The Constellation is quite a fun machine to use and certainly not your normal "garden-variety" vacuum, but schlepping it around takes a little skill to avoid that "out-of-control hovering"...having owned a hovering cleaner before, I'm getting used to it again!! :)

It's also much more powerful than I expected...I had a Celebrity III Air-Ride which had STRONG suction but didn't expect the Connie to be like that...even with the suction control open it tended to inhale the curtains! Needless to say the Connie is the same, except that it's whisper-quiet!! Power definitely seems to be a common characteristic of the hovering Hoovers from what I've seen.

And also, the Eurekas are going to the back room, giving the 843 the entire closet. The Connie and my Dazey Vac-Man Power Broom) are absolutely perfect for my room as it isn't that big and doesn't need a revolving brush; I can also get under beds quite easily with both. Not to mention that the Constellation blends in perfectly with my "theme"!!!!

Enjoy the pictures!

You're Welcome!

Hey Austin-

I'm so happy that you are so thrilled with the Constellation! I'm also happy that I had an extra 843 laying around that I was able to give you. I'll let you know what to watch for if I decide that I need another vacuum in my basement. :)

Constellations are among my favorites because their design is so simple... yet they were creatively designed, effective, and colorful (and that floating thing is cool, too)..! Their only real flaw is that the exhaust can have a tendency to blow the dirt around (In my experience, only if you let it get ahead of you, or have lots of dust bunnies). I've also heard that because of the back-pressure of the exhaust air created by the weight of the machine, they're less effective than they could be. But, IMHO, I think for their time (even nowadays), they're plenty powerful.

I looked through all of my tools, and had none of the tools in the correct color (light taupe). So I just got you a brand new set of replacement tools... The reason they came in Maytag packages is: a little more than a year ago, all of Hoover's parts were moved from North Canton, OH to Maytag's parts distribution center in Milan, TN. Maytag wanted to have one "parts facility" instead of multiple. Every now and then we'll get a dishwasher part, or a dryer part..

Well, once again, I'm glad that you're so thrilled with it, I have no doubt you'll treat it well. :)

Happy Hoovering!

Fred

Floaters

I have a Celebrity and carry it around instead of letting it float -- both for fear of accidentally scratching or chipping a corner of the travertine tile, and because of potentially blowing debris away.

Congratulations Austin!! I am so happy for you. Fred, that was really great of you to send this to Austin. Just another example of how great this club really is. I too am amazed at how powerful the Connie is. Have fun with your new vacuum!!

Very very nice...I wonder what the official color name is. Because I will soon be choked in vacuums I've sort of had to make a decision that I'm sticking with uprights with only one exception and that's connies. Nothing says Hoover like a convertible or constellation and they're so quiet and come in such fun colors.

That is great, we need a video of it in operation, showing this hovering you speak of.... that sounds too cool!
Congrats! Everyday I am amazed at what I learn here, and how generous you all are.

Hi Scott, good idea...the fact that the machines hover seems impossible at first..."Oh, the exhaust can't possibly lift the machine up off the ground." I was a bit skeptical back in '02 about the Celebrity, but when I tried it out, it glided across the floor effortlessly and could really "fly" sometimes! The Constellation is a bit more "tame" when it comes to hovering and glides a bit slower. I'll be sure to get a video if and when Media Encoder decides to work! :)

That is a very nice Constellation! The hovering part is very fun. I remember the first time a tried my Celebrity. I pulled on the hose and it went flying across te room and pulled the plug out. This was at the 2004 VCCC Convention on a tight low pile carpet, so it floated very well. A very fun vacuum.
