Update on bake elements for my pink '56 Hotpoint double oven range:I ordered part #CH44x142 to replace original part #WB44x142 from an ebay seller. Although they look quite different in shape (even the contact prongs) they work!!! I am soooooo excited! Only one went bad but I bought 2 for when the other goes. Thank you so much to all for the help.

pics below to show new vs. old parts. Dirty one is the original part.

Well that was easy!

Looks like the new style will provide a more even distribution of heat and might be a little faster to reach temperature since there's more coil area as well.

The proof is in the....

dinner. Double chocolate espresso cake in the left oven (old element). Cajun chicken and lemon chicken in the right with new element. Now we're cooking again. :)

And, Ralph, I was wondering how the different shape would affect the usage but you have just answered my question. Glad to hear it.

Dynaflow, that mixer is a whole 'nother appliance adventure. I am usually a diehard vintage Sunbeam gal but when I saw this at the Goodwill I couldn't pass it up. It had no bowl with it but it did have a beater. No problem, I had picked up the bowl years ago at Salvation Army, "just in case" I ever found one.
Long story short, it had the wrong beater. Searched and searched, finally took a chance on one from ebay, listed as for a different model. But it definitely works perfectly now. Embarrassed to admit I payed almost as much for the beater (with shipping) as I did for the mixer itself.

When we were kids step dad did stuff like that to the cheap or free stoves we always ended up with. I did the same in the rental we had for 22 years.
Replaced several burner elements and the bottom one in the oven. Plus rebuilt the guts in the toilet, replaced the water heater, replaced a blown pipe section in the kitchen wall, etc.
Partially out if necessity, and partially to save time and keep the house functioning as usually the parts were cheap and it helped keep my rent low as he never had to fix anything.
They do sell upgrade/better elements for just about any stove made so always got the ones with more turns or a extra loop like your oven element.
The only one I had to get paid back for was the water heater, owner took it of my rent and it was still working when we moved years later.

I want the recepie for the Double chocolate espresso cake!

Is it Top Secret or can you share?

Glad your oven is cooking again.  My favorite aunt (Aunt Sylvia) had  a Hotpoint double oven and cooktop from the 1950's (when the house was built) until my cousin got married in 1994 and she updated the kitchen.  The new GE she bought always looked somewhat cheap compared to the stainless Hotpoint (but I never would tell her that!).

Nice memories and much happy baking/cooking for you!

Alan
