Hi ....its time I find a new dishwasher and hope you can help.
Can't be more than 500 less is better. Family of 5. I don't rinse but do scrape well. Long cycle times are fine. I don't care about noise level. Very hot washes is a must. Manual filter ok long as its not after each load. I don't care about color. Am I asking to much in this price range?
Thank You

Hi Mamapinky!

I see a Bosch Ascenta for under 500 bucks at ABT.com, might not be a bad choice. I have heard the Ascenta line is good for its price point. Its 449.00 in white. I have had a Bosch dishwasher in the past and was pleased with its performance. We have one at work, usually run twice a day and has been going trouble free for years.

Bosch Ascentas are good units to look at.
So is Amana. Made by Whirlpool.
They’re basic and good performers.
With a very good filter based wash system.
With the Bosch or Amanas, you’ll only need to clean the filters
every few months.

If you need a sanitize option, Whirlpool has good models.

Mama!

The Bosch Ascenta is the way to go! The Auto cycle uses at least 130F wash, and the Heavy cycle uses at least a 150F wash. Even their cheapest machine has a sanitize option! Also, Bosch has the lowest claimed repair rate for dishwashers. I have grown to absolutely love mine. Just look for deals during Memorial Day weekend for the best prices.

Maytag?

What happened to your vintage Maytag?

Have you thought of looking for a vintage KitchenAid dishwasher?

If not, my sister purchased a Whirpool DW from Lowes about a year ago and loves it. It's similar to the one posted by appnut but stainless.

Hi. Thank You all. I only have a sec here but I'll return tomorrow. My son surprised me today with the Whirlpool 520. It was on sale at HD and Lowes for 329.00 but Lowes gave it to him for 300. Good price. I have 30 days to return if I'm not satisfied. So what do you think? Will it get me by for a few years? I'll stop back in tomorrow I'm falling asleep as I type. Oh it will be hooked up tomorrow. Thank you all very much for your help.

Congrats Mama!
What a nice gift to keep your household going.

The WP 520 series is a very good, capable, no-nonsense dishwasher.
The upper rack is a bit basic.
But, it hits a lot of your targets.
Hot washes with Sani rinse option.
Sensor cycle to load and go; machine chooses the wash from light to heavy.
Very capable filter-based wash system. You'll only need to clean it out every few months.
Which just consists of twisting out the screen cup and rinsing under water.
I would honestly put Whirlpool's reliability up there with Bosch. Some might disagree. But they're pretty well built today.

Probably Maytag

I think I would go for the Maytag. Maytag and Kitchen Aid are the only current dishwashers that do not have filters (on certain models). I really cannot see cleaning filters at this point. Yes they say you only need to clean once a month, but during that time some food is in there decaying. I reached in to pull out the filter in a Kitchen Aid at Home Depot (the one with a filter) and I cut my hand. The salesman thought I was a spaz and he tried it and cut himself also.

The Maytag has had some reports of wheels on the racks being a problem.

I would look for nylon racks at this price point, you do not want vinyl coated.

my experiance

I think you would be best with a non filter dishwasher and would suggest if you can find these models on craiglist a whirlpool powerclean model or maytag because I currently have a ge dishwasher that has a filter but once every 2 weeks or before that I have to check to see if the filter needs to be rinse in luck warm water or clean if dirty or find a vintage kitchenaid like this model or Kenmore dishwasher like this and if the model listed is a portable the beauty of thse models is you can convert them to built in and back to portable if one day you move or need to put an extra cabinet but still went to keep the dishwasher

Bosch Ascenta SHE3AR72UC. Retails for $499.99 and is an excellent dishwasher. We have had ours for about 6 months and I've grown to love it. Had a love/hate relationship at first due to the odd racking but have gotten used to it. You can pack the machine and everything will come clean. Manual filter but I only clean ours when I think about it, which tends to equal out to every couple weeks, and there is rarely much of anything in it. Has a Sanitize option and settings can be changed for extra heat dry, which I assume just raises the final rinse temperature (Bosch does not use heated drying, has not been an issue for us) All cycles come in under 3 hours, even on sanitize, and it is very, very quiet. Can barely be heard on Normal, Heavy uses higher pressure (variable speed pump) so It's slightly louder but still extremely quiet. Has an auto sensing cycle, which like Heavy, can raise the water pressure, but not always. Dishes come out spotless, I don't pre rinse or scrape, really. I knock off loose food particles over the disposal and load the dishwasher. Has full size spray arms under both racks, and a sprayer over the top rack, which all run at once. Upper rack is adjustable to 2 different levels or can be removed comletely very easily. Silverware basket can go in 2 places in the lower rack, or the upper rack if you so desire.

I thought the filter would be a pain, but I don't mind it.  If it contributes to the cleaning ability of my KA, I'm all for it.  I have not found one speck of anything in the recesses of my cups and glasses, whereas my GE left a little collection of sand sized particles no matter what I did.  The new filtering system is excellent.  Of course some here are against it because it's new....

Yellow Cabrio Dryer Door?

I have this dryer and thought the door had yellowed, then I saw another just like it.
Anybody know what the H-E double hockey sticks is going on around here, what with all these yellow doors on Whirlpool Cabrios and all?

Bought a Bosch Ascenta SHE3AR75UC

Bought a Bosch Ascenta SHE3AR75UC last night from Sears for $522 tax and delivery included. Lowes had a similar model for $485 + tax and I could have used a $139 rebate for Lowes installation. I want to install it myself so that part didn't matter to me and I don't have to mess with the rebate. I built the cabinets and installed the hardwood floor under it, so I don't like people messing with it. I'm replacing a Frigidaire Model #GLD2250RDC0 that was never that great. The main control board was replaced 3 times under warranty and the pump once under warranty and once by me.
