Hello everybody, are there any dishwashers with powerful ac pump motors anymore? I know that the Maytag and Whirlpool point voyagers still use them. What do you think of them and how they sound and perform? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think they operate fine.
As the alternative would be a d.c servo or hall sensor sinus motor pump which would be more costly to manufacture. They also require a p.c.b board.

What do you think of the new dishwasher motors from Whirlpool? I believe their Maytag line has the AC motor still, like their older point voyager line. What about their global wash system?

after reviewing the technical repair manual, they seem fairly status quo as modern pumps go.
Accordingly, the global wash system debuted in 2011, yes?
Our kids have had a Kenmore model since about 2013 or so. No problems yet. They use it almost every day. It's a middle of the line model, stainless inside an out.
Can I presume the motor parts are mainly sourced from China?
I saw one on Amazon for $39.95, and another for $94.99.
Looks fairly easy to service. If the correct motor is only $40, well it's probably not made to last a super long time, but many parts are simpler today, and thus cost less to make.
So, plastic is plastic, etc. Some is susceptible to chlorine and or mineral erosion.
Average life being 8 to 10 years for a dishwasher, and price points not super high, as usual, I think Whirlpool still offers a good product.

Yes we can. I think AC motors are better because they startup quickly. This is especially true for their point voyager line where they seemingly startup instantly.

It's my understanding the Whirlpool's current filter platform dishwashers are not using DC motors.
But AC "wet permanent magnetic rotor" synchronous motors with some kind of load feedback system for the controller. They do have some electronics in them as well.

They are very small, use very low wattage, but seem to really pack a power punch similar of older, larger motors.
According to the 2nd link, these run at about 3600rpm.
This little "pond pump" really sprays water around in my KitchenAid with force.
And regardless of the "soft start" to get the permanent magnet moving, it's perfectly unnoticeable whereas it seems like it starts up instantly. I doubt you'd ever notice the difference.

They are fed AC power too, but they have a built in transformer on the back of the pump.
I despised this pump in my old GE machine, because it totally gave off that brushy DC whine. It also made a pile of brush dust under the machine.

I don't notice the actual motor hum on my Kenmore, just an electrical hum. I did have a Frigidaire which lasted a year which was a piece of crap. It too gave off that brushy whine. The point voyager I had, you could notice a hum from the pump's disposal system as well as the fan on the back of the motor.
