New Dryer on the way

My Mum's Hotpoint TL61 has pretty much had it's day now, the belts snapped and it needs new drum rollers and/or bearing pads (screeches like mad).

We've already had a quite a lot of work done to it and spent more money on it than most people would on a dryer, considering it's been rather troublesome since new.

So last week she ordered a Zanussi ZDE67550W. Can't wait to have electronic moisture sensors, long anti-crease and a buzzer, went for the higher model mainly for the long anti-crease and the iron dry settings.

I did try for Miele, and she seemed very keen, until she was about to pay for it, and chickened out because of the price basically lol.

I really don't want to see the old one go to the tip, so I'll try ebay or giving it to the local repair shop or something. I'll link to a video of the old one (caught in a rare moment where it wasn't screeching) if you're interested.

For £208, I think it's a bit of a bargain. Won't be getting it for a few weeks though, due to going on holiday shortly.

I'm assuming there is a button of sorts that opens the door since I don't see a handle? Neat looking design.

Yeah the door is on a sort of spring release mechanism, you push it and it swings open.

The washings really building up now, it's ok most of the time but now theres loads to do and I can only manage 3 loads a day without the dryer :/

Zanussi Dryers

I have a Zanussi condenser model ZDB5377W from 2007 and its an amazing machine- fast(for a condenser), quiet, B energy rated and auto sensor.

In an ideal world I know vented dryers are preferable but its not really an option where it is.

The sensor on our vented dryer seems to have gone bung with no heat or reverse tumbling....yet the 30/60/90 minute timed programmes are working perfectly....

Having moved from a timer to a sensor, you do get used to just how long certain loads take at different times of the year to dry and not having the flexibility of 'just another 10min' is a right PITA....

Let us know how you get on with your new dryer. As i have mentioned before I bought a white knight 7kg condensor in nov last year and have regretted it ever since and i am looking to replace it and soon before the gurantee runs out, btw the engineer has been to repair it that many times now i have added him as a friend on facebook..

....your Mum decided on a new dryer Matt. I usually prefer mending to replacing but it sounded like the Hotpoint was past paying for now.

Good choice of dryer too. Im taking it that's the vented Zanussi? What with the ZDE model number (ZDC being condensors)? Looks like a sound choice. Miele is pretty much the only make that wouldve been better from a build quality perspective, but the money they ask is abit much for a dryer i think.

Hi Robbie, I think this should be a pretty good one, the only thing that I suspect may bug me is the wierd reverse action, but then again gone are the days of 37sec reverses unless you go for a Miele which senses when the load is tangled. Mum's current one with 60 (or 70) second reverses just tangles things up one way, reverses and tangles them up the other way, so I don't think there will be too much difference.

Hey Liam, yeah it is the vented version, I think she's got about the best dryer in her price range, and yeah the Hotpoint really was knackered, so I won't lose too much sleep over replacing it.

Can you please let me know how your new dryer performs. We have a Zanussi compact dryer which is not be enough for the amount of washing we do.

My partner wants to buy me a new dryer for Xmas. I just wondered which dryer is the best one to buy.
