Hi All

I am looking at buying a new dryer and wondered if any one could recommend a good Heat Pump dryer or condenser dryer.

Been looking on AO and do like the Beko heat pump dryers. How long do heat pump dryers take to dry. I always spin my washing at 2800rpm, to cut down on drying cost.

I believe it's Black Friday so hopefully I can buy one cheaper.

At the moment I have a Miele vented dryer, 4 years old and broke down this week. Was told it's the pcb board.

Hi Paul,

I bought an AEG heat pump dryer earlier thiis year and I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised with it.

As tumble dryers go, it was on the pricey side but I did get a good deal with AO.com at the time. The main reason I decided on a heat pump dryer was due to the energy efficiency (the one I have is A rated.)

In terms of drying time, I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The digital display does tend to over egg the drying times to start with but the sensor is really good and the machine dries perfectly. For example, a full load of cottons on the cupboard dry programme always starts out at 3 hours 28 minutes but in the 10 months I've had it, the programme has never run for longer than two hours absolute maximum, even on towel loads.

The AEG has also provided a welcome relief from having to flush out the heat exchanger as I have previously had to do with other condenser dryers. All this one needs is a quick vacuum with a dusting brush attachment on every month or so.

I can't speak for other brands of course as I haven't experienced heat pump dryers from other manufacturers but I have heard some people say they are noisier than their conventional counterparts. I honestly don't find the noise level of mine any worse than my previous Hotpoint condenser dryer.

I'd recomend AEG, one with a bedding cycle to be exact.

All others (including Miele) don't reverse at all or only verry rarely. Especially Beko, Bauknecht/Whirlpool and of course BSH.
With a normal dryer, interupting a cycle to untagle the load isn't a big issue, but heatpump dryers have a safety switch in place that prevents restarting the heatpump before a certain time period has passed (usually 5 or so minutes). This can make drying beddings or blankets a chore.

Maybe the AEG TÖKO+++ is still sold with its 5 year manufacturer warranty. A+++ rating and an Inverter heatpump (allows for more silent, more controlled heating).

Hi Guys and thanks for the information.

I have a Miele 7634 vented dryer. I have never been happy with it from day 1. The "clean out airways light" is forever coming on, yet filter is always cleaned after each load. My bedding always comes out creased, unlike my Dads old Zanussi dryer.

I have been reading reviews on the Beko dryers and they seem to have good reviews. I did read up on Bosch dryers and certainly won't be buying a Bosch.

It doesn't have to be heat pump, or condenser, as we converted the garage into a laundry room.

Great laundry room!

I was disappointed to read that a Miele dryer (not cheap!) has failed catastrophically after only 4 years. Is this OK?

Also surprised that it wasn't much good during it's life!

Even more surprised that a Beko seems to have better opinions than Miele!! Credit where credit's due.....

Mine is only a Crosslee (badged Baumatic) cheap P-O-S (integrated, not my choice) but dries well and still going strong after 4 years. Still even has a tick-tick mechanical "guess the time" timer LOL.

Yes very disappointed with the Miele dryer. My bedding comes out creased and never overload the machine. I have 3 Miele washing machines and they are fantastic, one of my W754S model was the first ever made model.

I just want a good decent dryer, not really bothered if it Heat Pump, Condensor, or vented. I am interested in the Heat Pump dryers as they save money, but if they take ages to dry is putting me off a little.

Gonna study more reviews.

Ages to dry

Certanly not ages.

They are slower, but not by much. Our A++ rated Bauknecht drys a well spun load of heavy towels in less then 2h, a load of 4-5 jeans in about 80 minutes. Thats all cold start times, they tend to be about 10% shorter if a load has been run soon before.

Only thing, as said, tangeling is a bigger issue.

I have a beko

I have the beko DSX83410W a++ rated dryer it is efficient but it takes roughly for an 8kg load spun at 1400 around 2.5 hours to dry but this dryer has saved us £40 in the first month it's deffo worth the lon drying times

You know in the US most all of the dryers tumble in only one direction. I find that annoying, since large items tend to roll up into a ball. I certainly like my LG made front load washer & dryer, but the dryer does only tumble in one direction. So I do tend to have the balling up problem. Too bad that we don't have the reverse rotation for dryers here. I don't actually know of any in the states that reverse rotation, to my knowledge.

New Dryer

Decided in the end to go for condenser. Read the reviews for Beko dryers and the lovely Rodger,s review for his Beko dryer.

There was a Bosch lady rep in Currys and she of course pointed me to the Bosch range of dryers, after about 10 mins of her recommended Bosch dryers I then asked her why they don't reverse tumble. Her answer was, there's no need for reverse tumble dryers in the Bosch range as they have big paddles and stop clothes from bunching up. I did read some reviews of Bosch dryers and that was a problem with them

I didn't want to pay lots of money for Dryer, it is going into the converted garage that's now my laundry room. There is heating in there, but was worried if the temperature did from to a certain level, then a heat pump dryer might not work as well. Also , our boiler is in the garage, the temperature never goes below 5 c in garage, but to be safe a condesor is my preferred option.

The machine arrives tomorrow sometime, so looking forward to having a play.

New Dryer

The dryer arrived Sunday morning at about 0830 am. I dried 1 load of dark coloured items, t shirts, my partners uniform. I decided to use the machine on timed drying and set it to 60 mins. When the dryer had finished I was shocked that nothing needed to be ironed. The Miele was terrible for creasing items, then use to iron them.

The 2 no load was light coloureds, jumpers etc, again, nothing needed to be ironed.

At first I was a bit dubious of Beko appliances, but so far very impressed. I always was the bedding on a Thursday, so will let you know how that comes out.
