Well, the thing that I had feared would happen one day occurred this morning.
I was shaving for work and my electric razor quit working almost half way through my shave.

Now I need to buy a new razor and I'm looking for suggestions on a good electric razor to buy

I've used Philips/Norelco ever since I was a little shaver. I guess about 40 years now since I bought my first twin head model (which I still have btw for sentimental purposes).
If you go that route don't get the cheapest but no need to get the most expensive one either I don't think.
Mines a Senso Touch wet/dry and it was around $99 . I've never used it wet. I like them but something like this is very subjective since I've never tried one of the better Brauns etc.

Braun

Typically I have always disliked electric shavers but they are quick and convenient.

For years I used an early Norelco rotary "Lift & cut" (Lift & yank??)model. Despite the 3 floating heads and the twin blades I was always unimpressed. For me it didn't get close and the rotaries make it tough to shave a clean line.

I gave up on electrics for years and used a blade, still do if I want a close shave.

But a while back I bought a lower end Braun. Its rechargeable, has a fixed head and pop up trimmer and best of all its washable. With a little care it shaves nearly as close as a blade. I think the closest thing to it today is the CruZer 5 which Target is listing for $60 I've had mine for about 4 years and it still acts as new. I'd replace it with the same if it failed.

Used electrics 50yrs. Shick, Sunbeam, Norelco (2), Braun (3). Used Panasonic linear motors since then (3). Much faster. Can be used wet but I don't, hard water would deposit unless dried each time. Newest one is ES8103, around $80, full performance/no frills. As always, skin and hair type affect results.

Rechargeables now tend to be lithium. To make them last longer, do what Chevy Volt does, don't discharge much below 30% or charge much above 80% Lipos/Liios are the exact opposite of NiCds which needed exercise--full discharge, full charge--for health. Panasonic batteries are replaceable only at factory service centers.

Braun for me. I've had a couple of Norelcos that shaved very nicely but the pop-out trimmers were awful - I couldn't see what I was trimming. The Braun pop-up trimmer works very well. Having a full beard means most of my trimming is done with a Wahl clipper but if the battery on that runs out of a charge, or if I'm travelling, it really helps that the Braun can take care of anything.

I've used electric shavers for as long as I've had to shave (maybe 37 yrs? LOL). For most of those years it has been a Philishave (Philips, Norelco in the USA). I've tried Braun but didn't like it as it didn't shave as close. I like the triple floating head on the Philishave, it feels comfortable in the hand, rechargeable, cuts close, and it is quiet.

Talking about electric razors has me wondering if any of you guys use 'Lectric Shave or some other face prep before using your razors.

I recently replaced my worn out 10-year-old Braun with a Norelco rotary head electric. There is no way the Norelco performs like the Braun did.

Glad you started this thread!

I've always used a Norelco myself...until about 5 years ago when my last one died.  Since my early 20's I've only trimmed around my beard so I went back to shaving with a blade.  I had a skin cancer taken off my temple December 10th and I had to shave most of my beard off.  I'm left with moustache and gotee.  I've never sported a gotee before and I'm getting compliments on it.  Since my eyesight ain't what it used to be, I hate trying to shave around my 'stache and gotee with all the foam and stuff so I'm debating either growing my beard back or getting another electric razor.  If I do get another electric I will probably go back with Norelco.  I spied a nice little blue Norelco wet/dry shaver with a pivoting head at Walgreen's for $129.00.   I have a trip to Costco coming up so I'll look around.   I enjoy reading other reviews also.   Jim

A Curious Question

From the two pics I've seen of other members making comments on this thread, it appears I'm not the only one who goes for the bald look.

I usually do mine about every five days. I trim it down as much as I possibly can using my two Wahl beard trimmers, then follow up with Edge (or some other type of shaving gel), and shave with either my Gillette Fusion Pro-Glide or my Schick Hydro 3. To be quite honest, I think I get a BETTER shave using the Schick.

Now, I know there's hair trimming appliances that are supposed to give you the bald look, but I've noticed they don't come all that close as with a razor.

The question is: can you use an electric shaver on your head? Will it do any damage to your scalp?

I bought myself the most expensive of the Norelco Models, it came with the charging base station that also cleans the razor.  It has served faithfully all these years but now requires 2 charges a week.  I paid around $250 for it.

I have used Norelco rotary shavers since high school. (45+ years) I never liked shaving with soap and a blade, never tried another brand of electric. I guess that I agree they do not shave as close as they might, but they also never irritate my face. I do not use any kind of lotion. (thinking here about LectricShave, never used it, assumed it is a lotion) I have had over time shavers that were fixed configuration and others that were adjustable. Mostly never changed the adjustments once a workable setting was discovered. Expensive ones and cheap ones, my experience was about the same for all of them. Replacement blades ("cutters and combs") are readily available these days, in the past you needed to have them changed at a repair shop. Bottom line for me: no problems, full recommendation.

I saw a Norelco at Wally World earlier for 89.99. Didn't get the model #, but looked like a nice shaver. Also saw a Remington at Target for 49.99 (I didn't know Remington made Norelco clones).

Sam, what was the brand you had that up and died? Did you have it very long?

Norelco

I still have a 1962 Norelco my grandfather received as a retirement present,he wouldnt get near an electric so I got it brand new and used it for years, bought a triple header later,I now have a new norelco,I bought at Costco,it works well, but I shave my head and face everyday.I once tried a blade, but no more.I looked like I had been in the Bates Motel.I change blades about every 2years.You guys are right about the trimmer though, you cant see what your trimming.

Started shaving...

....with a blade, but over the last 40 years, have also tried electric shavers. On a couple of occasions, have tried Norelco/Philips and also two different Brauns. After giving both brands months and months of use, the rotary Norelco never gave me a close shave. Braun comes close, and I still use one today, for touch ups if I need to be at a school function in the evening. Otherwise, I use my old Atra double blade razor every morning - my face just isn't suited to daily electric shaving.
