new F/L washer DOORS, quality of latching/closing ?

I have heard over time that some have had problems with the doors closing/latching properly, particularly on the LG. They can become slightly warped/bent ? It seems most of the doors close a tad on the "flimsy" side and not necessarily "securely" ........... anyone else have input / feelings ?

I think the only way to avoid a flimsy door would be to buy a Milnor or something of the like...

Well, I should add that my definition of a non flimsy door is one I can hang on and not have it break off... lol

Brands with pretty solid doors here include Miele, Zanussi/AEG, and the Bosch machines with the door handle on the outside of the door. The newer Hotpoint Aquarius and Ultima machines seem to have quite solid doors too; but I wouldn't put my money on it.

One of my clients bought an LG set a couple of weeks ago and although they seem to be very adequate machines in most respects, one of the things I can't stand is the washer door hinges. You cannot leave the door ajar a little bit to allow the machine to dry out - once you unlatch the door, the spring-loaded hinges open the door all the way. Annoying feature that would keep me from buying the machine.

Look at that door bet it weighed 100 lbs by itself the old flatwork ironer ran forever too.

Miele washer doors are quite sturdy and built for the duration. In fact one has to slam the door hard in order for it to shut properly, and it is designed for such treatment over 20-30 years (average life span of a Miele washing machine).

Although I'm not quite ready to replace my Amana TL machine, I've been looking at Duets and their latching mechanism seems really flimsy to me. If I'm paying that kind of money, I expect something more solid. It doesn't seem to me that a Duet latch would last 20 - 30 years as was mentioned above re: Miele. I'm hoping Whirlpool has improved their latch by the time I'm ready to buy.

I have the LG 3677 combo for over 2 years. It seems to be built better than a lot of other FL's. But already I had to have the service come out twice to adjust the door because of a leak.

Ralph, I've had the Whirlpool Duet for 2 1/2 years now and have never thought the latch or hinges were flimsy - they've worked fine. Granted, they don't have 20-30 years use on them but unless you're hanging on the door, I can't see why they wouldn't. The real question is whether or not the the sheet metal will last that long ;-)

Gansky thanks for the vote of confidence on Duet mechanism. I'm probably going to end up with the BOL large drum model, which I believe is the 9150. I can't see spending the extra $ for the high end model with increased spin speed. I use gas for drying and it's fairly cheap compared to electric. One big dealer here has dropped the price on a 9150 to well below $700, and recently Lowe's had them on sale cheap with pedestal included. By the time I'm ready to buy, I could get myself a pretty good deal. I'll be keeping an eye on the threads here to see how Duets compare to other machines their size but so far I don't see any reason to be looking at another brand other than KA or Sears clones.

the new GE front loaders have a HUGE hinge for their washer and dryer. it actually looks "too" strong. if there is such a thing.
