New Fisher and Paykel do not wash with the lid up anymore?

I went to Standard TV and Appliance yesterday just to peek around at all of the new toys that they have on LIVE display, it is really neat I think.i particually like to watch the Fisher and Paykel wash. The new machines for 2006, which are now made in Ohio now, lock when they are in Operation.I was kind of suprised by that. The first F and P would not wash with the lid open, right after that they have.It was so neat to see it wash with its unique stoke for every wash cycle.What do you think? Should they wash with the lid up, or should it lock, or should we have a choice?

This apparently is a change on the latest model revision. My IWL12, which was purchased in late summer 2004 (one generation back), locks only during spin-proper.

My older GWL08 doesn't have a locking lid, but the magnetic lid switch stops the action any time there's a cycle phase in progress that does or could involve the basket rotating, which includes fill and drain periods. Apparently drain is considered part of spin, and water level sensing is considered part of fill (very slow 23-RPM). Agitation can be watched .... but not until water level sensing is complete.

Agitation on a toploader should be viewable, except perhaps in the case of the extremely splashy machines like vintage ABC/Kelvinator (although *they* *did* agitate with the lid open).

My new IWL 16 locks the lid immediately when the machine is turned on. A disappointment -- We should at least have a choice in the matter.

However, I have found a way to fool the machine and can now wash with the lid opened or removed.

I love the machine and enjoy watching the agitation.

Also, the top load dryer is the best dryer I've ever owned.

Here in Brazil all the new washers don't work with the lid opened, even in the agitation cicle! but, they all of them have a glass or an acrilic window in the lid to see the action! some of them lock the lid in the spin cicle!

The Oasis locks the lid from start to finish, but at least there is a window!
