Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

NOOOOO!

It has a low profile agitator!

Looks like this might be Fisher and Paykels equivilent of the Oasis/Cabrio.

Why cant someone manufacture a large capacity horizontal axis top loader?

Well, since F&P has a large part in making the Oasis/Cabrio, I bet its the same machine with the F&P design. Now If this machine gets the 4 star then the O/C should too! I want to see the inside!

Aha! Kewl. AquaSmart follows the water-flavored name pattern of Oasis. But what does Cabrio mean?

Equator announced a while back an upcoming toploading, horizontal-axis, full capacity COMBO washer/dryer. Haven't run across anything other than the initial press anouncement, though.

Large Capacity Top Loading H-Axis Washers

Probably not are on the horizon for domestic use any time soon for several reasons. First and foremost as capacity increases so does the tub, and with a horizontal tub that would mean having to reach deep down into a narrow opening. This is probably something that many consumers would not find satisfactory. Commercial top loading H-Axis machines solve this problem by using a cylinder shape, but then extraction becomes a problem, hence commercial laundries have separate extractors.

Laundress, I think the width of the TLHA machines in Europe of the tubs is about22 cm's. For a large capacity machine surely a tub and trapdoor about 35 cm wide couldnt be that much of an issue.

And as for the fiddly drum catch Electrolux has solved that problem with its plastic covered spring door.

Bobby, the 4 star rating is a water usage rating system in Australia to encourage people to by water effiencent washing machines. Front loading sales have boomed and we have adjusted to Euro style washing machines better than Americans have. This Fisher and Paykel is the first of its kind as Maytag and Whirlpool never bothered importing their HE toploaders into Australia.

low profile agitator??

Hi Arrrooohhh,
When you mention low profile agitator, do you mean it is a normal type agitator just smaller, or is it a pulsator disc like my Twintub has?
Also may I ask why you don't like them, my twinnie's pulsator wash action seems to work quite well in cleaning the clothes, and provided I am not stupid and overload it (which I confess I have done once or twice) tangling is not really a problem.
Cheers.
Steve.

new fisher & paykel

Hey, that sounds interesting!
Why on earth do they not sell these machines in/to Germany???

And I have to agree with PULSATRON when he says that twintubs do a very good job - and there is none faster washing-method than pulsators - FOUR minutes for a load of whites and ONE minute for delicates!!!!!!
I own three twinies AEG (1956), Hoover (1964) and Hotpoint (1989), all other machines I gave away to a museum several years ago because of a lack of space...
The thing with twinnies and singel-tubs/wringer-washers is that you can use the suds several times, 1-5 loads depending on the soil level. And as these machines can do the rinsing during the next load of washing simultaneously, there's none faster and more efficient way of doing the weekly family wash!
Nevertheless I also use an american TL as well..... Sometimes I'm a lazybone....

I saw this model back in July. I had a play with the controls and the agitator is like a disc. It moves backwards and forwards like a traditional agitator, but the clothes don't move from outside to the centre, but the other way around. It has detergent and conditioner dispensers on the front left hand side. It recommends you use Omomatic or a Matic detergent. Have you noticed the packaging of the Omomatic has changed to include High efficiency toploaders?

Is it like the Oasis/Cabrio agitator? If it creates reverse-rollover, then it should be it.

Hi Guys from what I have read this is a dual wash machine. It seems like it has an Oasis/Cabrio type agitator but has and option of doing a High efficiency or conventional wash. This is great that Fisher Paykel have finally decided to introduce a water efficient model in to the Australian/New Zealand market. I am not sure what goes on in New Zealand but here in Australia we are thirsty! Cant wait to see theese in the store. Jim

Aquasmart now on website.

Pretty disappointing too it doesnt give much info about this new and radically different machine. Not many pictures either.

But the user manual is there is PDF and I read through it. For starters it locks the lid for all parts of the cycle except for filling. There is no glass lid. So now watching the action.

All cycles can be used in conventional mode (full tub of water) but only some use the high efficency mode. On the high efficency cycles, a shower rinse is used, no rinse similar to the wash cycle, just shower with fresh water.

So all in all this machine seems rather pointless. It will cost a fortune, and I suspect people will not be happy with the rinsing performance, and then start to use the conventional full fill cycle, negating any water savings.

Doesn't seem to me to be as convincing as the Oasis/Cabrio.

also they announced a few years ago that they would be working with whirlpool. maybe thats why Oasis, Cabrio & aquaSmart all have this new HE system
