My mothers 10 year old TL whirlpool died. Bad transmission. I went with her to look at new machines at sears. She had intentions of buying another TL washer. I pointed out the FL's and she was turned off by having to stoop to load and unload and said my father would never go for the extra money. She did like the idea of the pedestle. My sister just got the new frigidaire FL 4 months ago and loves it. After discussing it further she said if my father agreed to it she would buy the FL. She called my father and when I discussed the water savings he said go for it. So we went to a private store near her house and ordered it for $650.00 plus the pedistle for another $150.00 and they are comming Friday. My mom is still reserved about getting the FL but I am hoping she will like it. Time will tell.

You may want to mention to momma that sheakers, pillows. coats, blankets, comforters and even large flokati (wool shag) rugs and dhurries(also room- sized but thin, flat rugs) can all now be washed with ease!

and the super-fast spin saves $ in the dryer too,as well as purging minerals and soap residues from the load.

Actually if we were going to do a TL we would have got the whirlpool washer to match the dryer. But we will see what happens. I hope she likes the Frigidaire FL.

Is this the 3.1 or the 3.5

FL machine. We purchased the new then 3.5 FL Sears and love it The rest of family has the 3.1 FL's Frigidaire, GE and Kenmore. Just this summer one sone purchased the GE frontload 3.1 washer and dryer for 600.00 for both as a scrach and dent NIB one litte dent in top of washer which he hasn't used as he has them stacked. We had a 3 year old Amana that smoked and burnt all the wires to the timer was a POS nothing but problems with it.

I couldn't get my mom to go for a FL machine, when she bought her Kenmore TOL agitator machine. She is no different that a lot of people from that old WWII, "smoke 'em if you got 'em" generation, who just can't get away from their butter churn washer mentality. Now that my father is seriously ill, and generating lots of laundry, she regrets the decision. Large blankets, throw rugs, quilts, bedspreads are all better handled in an FL machine such as the new Frigidaire.

Well the FL came today - it was put on a pedistal we tested and did 1 big load of mixed laundry. Towels underware tee shirts. My mother couldnt believe how much it could be fulled.
I explained to fill up but don't pack. She hasent used fabric softner in years but tried it today. At first she kept saying their is No water in the machine. I explained you arent supposed to see the water. She was very taken back. Problem was when the machine started to rinse and spin we saw more soap because the clothes retain soap from the old TL whirlpool. We used Tide HE I explained to use even less soap
for awhile. She was impressed how dry and clean the load came out. Also the big load only took 35 minutes to dry in the whirlpool dryer. She said she is not going to wash again for another day or so. I am sure she will call me back. I will keep everyone posted. I like the frigidaire except the door boot retains more water than other FL's.
It also runs faster than my LG.

If it's the 3.5cf Frigmore...

there are drain holes in the bottom part of the door gasket, just not at the very bottom. You can grab the gasket and pull up, and most of the collected water will drain out. This is easier to do than to explain, if you try it you will see. The small amount of water that is left after doing this can be sopped up with a sponge or a piece of the laundry just completed.

New Frigidaire Front Loader

Well today I did 2 more loads with mom and she said at first she doesn't see how the machine will clean with such little water. She washed 2 shirts with stains - one had salad dressing and the other shirt had ground in dirt. After the cycle was over she was impressed how clean the shirts were, but is still surprised it cleans with such a little bit of water. She still needs to get used to the controls.

Sounds like the machine is working well. The local Frigidaire dealer has a set on pedestals in stock and I'd love to get them. Unfortunately, other bills require attention first. Once she gets used to the FL format, I think she'll love it. I switched to FL machines in the early 1980's and have never looked back. Glad you were there to persuade her! It's easy for non-washerheads to look only at the price tag and immediately move on to the less expensive TL machines...

The eficiency of F/L-ers does take getting used to.

But then, watch a T/L after that and you probably feel what Europeans (who are used to F/L-ers) feel when they first see a water-hog.

I know I was kinda amazed at the water use when I got my GE Filter-flo and put him into use.

Still the T/L feels like "home". And I will go to Canada (if I have to) to get one if my current T/L dies.

If anyone lives near a Boscov's (department store): they've been advertising the Frigidaire FL washer AND dryer for $799 on closeout. It's been a while, so it looks like the price may last until they're all gone.
