Its a counter depth Gallery model SXS that my mom had to have thinking of Frigidaire like it was the 50's. My searches showed its pretty much junk. Yet my friend has the same model and no problems for 2 years. We've had this one for 30 days and ice maker dumps ice all over the freezer, cubes get stuck in the shoot seems cause they dont devide well having 2-4 attached. The door is misaligned and the temp display shows incorrect temps, have it set at -4 now and shows 8 deg on my ss frig thermometer, dont know how accurate it is, might need a better quality one. The service guys coming out tomorrow but not much faith in them, I hear they love repeat calls? Good thing I saved the old frig to fix up when i can.

It's possible that the display has nothing to do with the actual temp. and is only indicating that it's set 4 below whatever the default is.
Read your manual carefully.

Wee bought a plain and simple Frigidaire "all fridge" and an upright Frigidaire frost free freezer and have had no problems with them in the 2 or 3 years.  I've never had a fridge with an ice-maker because I hear they're always problems... that's why you might want to consider an extended warranty...

Just remember, yes when we bought the freezer there was water puddling on the floor beside it..  it turned out that the drain tube hand't been connected to the water pan.. a simple two second, push it on and it's fixed kinda thing.  Other than that all's well..  Temp display etc all good.

I and my parents

Have had WP/Maytag/Estate/Roper branded identical fridges with ice makers.  Only problem we ran into was a relay for the compressor, replaced under warranty.  That was years ago.  I'd probably get another WP product should the need arise.

I bought a new GE side by side in 1999 ( ALL DIGITAL ) high end model, and it worked fine, ice maker and all, until 2011 when the circuit board "went" .
It was the compressor relay on the board but i just slapped a new $120.00 board in there, 5 minutes and she's still purring today.
Ice maker and all.
Not bad really.
It would have been about $300.00 through a serviceman.
Point is i was real nervous about quality in 1999 and if she dies today i couldn't really gripe about it.. Goin' on 17 years now.
Now, the top of the line GE washer i bought at the same time,,,,, not so good.
3 or 4, i can't remember anymore, warranty transmissions over 10 years.
The last two i paid labor no parts but i got a deal.
The last one they had to do trans, outer tub, inner stainless tub, for free because that inner stainless tub WOULD NOT BUDGE from the transmission.
He tried like hell to free that thing from the tranny but no way.
It had only been on there 2 or 3 years on tranny # 2 or 3 but it was S T U C K.
Not impressive G.E.
This last one, is the best transmission EVER in that washer, and has been working fine and QUIETLY for 4+ years now.
I am wary of it though, every time i use it, have been since about year 3 so, not so good.
That transmission was NOTORIOUS and GE KNEW IT, and GE kept building them with NO changes for YEARS, but compared to some folks appliance horror stories I've read it's nothing.

I have the temp set at -4 deg and this morning showed zero deg on the stanless thermomete i put in there, so it is off but the tech guy came over and said there all like that? He couldn't even adjust the door as frig side was 1/4" higher? He ordered a new ice maker so will see if the cubs break up like they should next week.

We havent done much on the maytag washer in 30 years and the old dryer still works, changed belts a few tims and think one water valve. still have the '64 dishwasher but not used much. If I have the choice I will always buy an older appliance, less problems IMO.

Think I learned something. You can have a vintage appliance with very few problems during its life or buy new and spend lots of time getting to know the service man.

BTW "Petek" we did get a extended warrantee. Think our unit must have been built on a Monday or Friday :)
