New Grand Piano

We have a 1925 Marshall and Wendell grand piano that we were given for free. It has an Ampico in it too. That means that it is a reproducing piano that plays everything that the person playing the roll recorded into it. Fast and slow; louds and softs etc. It is in an artcase too. Can't go wrong for free. It plays fine and really needs to be tuned. The tuner is coming on July 26th. Gary

Thanks guys, I will do that. We are having it tuned on July 26th.
I cleaned the keys last night and they were filthy. I can't believe that there are no chips or cracks on any of the ivory keys. Gary

Amazing! It's absolutely gorgeous. Interesting 'player' system. What songs/pieces of music do you have for it?

We just got the piano tuned last week and it sounds amazing. It hadn't been tuned in 20 years so I was expecting the worst. No broken stings and he was able to bring it to pitch too. I like it a lot. Gary

One of these days I am going to own one of those...always wanted one for times I want piano in the background and not have to make myself play! I love seeing things like this up here--always interesting to see what alot of other members enjoy outside of appliances! Nice! My grand piano has no player mechanism, but it does make up for it in brand prestige, as (albeit only 5'10" in length, near-BOL) it's a WW1-vintage Bösendorfer. Sustains like you wouldn't believe...

Wow, Bosendorfer pianos are wonderful! Good for you. These pianos are top end and we don't find many of these here in the US unless you are at a conservatory etc. Good for you! Gary

It's a bit special. It's pretty tatty cosmetically these days, and the lid has cracked so can't be raised, but it works for a living and has inspired dozens of players, from 5 to 75... cost us just under £15k from our trusty restorer.
