So finally after abit of searching I found something to replace my zanussi with as the lack of extra rinse especially, aswell as a lack of progress indicators, time remaining and 30deg option. the final straw was when I got irritations from detergent which I have never had. I don't like being restricted on choices of detergent and have always washed my two sons clothes in biological detergent since they were born.

Rinsing is something i'm very particular about so I decided enough was enough.

I found a current Indesit IWE7145 1400 7kg washer in ebay! It had 2 broken paddles which myself and my good friend Austin (ozzie908) replaced it with a new set of paddles which actually a little deeper as they are off an aqualtis.

Having had experience with an indesit WIL163 & a Hotpoint WT960 I had hoped the spin balancing issues were still not present....they are not! It has yet to rebalance any load including towels out of the 4 i've done and watched through! It cleans superbly and is much quieter than previous models. Rinsing without extra rinse is fantastic and does 2 very deep rinses! Final spin produces very good results.

It also has an electromagnetic door interlock so you can access it instantly and it also has an emergency door entry in the plith like miele!

It is temporarily plumbed in the garage in our new house while our extension which includes utility is built!

Fantastic!
I second what you said, rinsing is the most important thing! And with my Whirlpool machine I have to manually add a rinse (or sometimes two) to every load!
That Indesit doesn't look bad at all and I'm glad it's working nicely!

congrats

on the new machine Darren, looks fab and a lot sturdier than my Hotpoint WD440 I had. I love my sisters BOL Indesit, no fuss, no frills and gets the job done well.

indesit have really steped up their game with their latest machines, my stepmum has a new indesit machine bout at christmas and everytime ive seen it running it has never had any problems with balancing and the rinses are great, same as my Hotpoint WMF540G

Can you take a picture with one normal, and one longer ''new paddle'' so we can see how it looks? :)

...

Nice machine.

Apart from the obvious drum issue (had to be said, be careful with two young children in the house), I did like Indesit's new range when it came out, it looked very modern and better than Hotpoint! I wonder how the drum looks with the paddle.

The 'emergency door open' is a first I think, I don't think I've seen any other machine have such a feature, but it's a good idea if the machine went faulty mid cycle and you needed to empty it.

The emergency door lock strap (zero delay interlock) is on most of the indesit machines apart from the IWB5113/IWSC5125 & the IWC61/SIXL145 MOONS. Its on all of the Hotpoint washers.

Hey Darren

Very nice machine! Really like the design of it especially the large display which looks great.

Ive no experience of Indesit machines so it's nice to see one. Glad you are pleased with it and the way it works. The high level rinses sound good...unusual these days!

Cheaper & Better.....

Ive not been a huge fan of anything from Indesit (or their other companies) over the last 10 years, but it seems with this generation of machines and their last (similar looking) machines, that the Indesit models have been cheaper and better lasting than their equivilent Hotpoint models.

Ive actually been quite suprised about how many older (ie 5-8 year old) Indesit models are still in operation. Given their cheap initial price this seems pretty good to me. It's fair to say i've been quite suprised at the length of service from some Hotpoint models too, but given their more expensive purchase price, this achievement is less impressive than Indesit's.

Knowing people with current Hotpoint models, i think things have improved with them in terms of balancing on spin, which ought to help prevent the suspension & bearings being wrecked. However their main ongoing problem seems to be massive variations in quality control - complete drum & bearing replacement at 18 months (as happened to our neighbour) when another machine with similar use is fault-free after 6 years is quite concerning. Granted this happens with all mass produced items, but Indesit/Hotpoint seem one of the worst offenders.

If i had to pick between the two it seems Indesit is the only one to get, especially when price is factored in, but i am shocked you've given them another try Darren, given how bad your previous Indesit & Hotpoint machines have been. Totally agree with the critisisms of the Zanussi (lack of progress indicators, 30c cycle & early bearing failure) but i think my money would've been with something like a Beko or Whirlpool, even though neither would've answered all the critisisms of the Zanussi.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how the Indesit fares, and i'm intrigued why they've chosen to go to the expense of offering the emergency door release when the money could've probably been better spent improving quality elsewhere.

Thank you for the positive comments guys. I'm very impressed with it! I will take a picture of the too drum paddles next to each other once the builders have gone lol.

Liam: Well. I haven't lost my mind. My reason for restored faith in indesit is thus. My friend has the indentical model to mine in silver. and I have stood in the kitchen many times and watched it spin every load and do the wash much quieter than my ex's mums indesit WIL163. I have always loved the programming on the indesits and the rinsing is fantastic.

So this one crept up on ebay and I love the styling of the IWE7145 so I thought i'm gonna get that. I'm not disappointed. Its quieter than the zanussi too!

Now I did love my zanussi but I also hated it because while it possessed many traits of old zanussi's the things that I mentioned before drove me nuts. I hated how It filled static filled right up to the door and then tumbled, soaked up the water and tumbled around half dry before refilling. If it was a small load it ended up being too deep for a good tumble! grr! I love how well the indesit saturates everything and you can see water dribbling everywhere when the drum pauses.

It does everything I want so i'm pleased!

I'd like the prime to but i'm in no rush now.

Congratulations on your new purchase :)

It looks really good, much better looking than previous TOL Indesit models! Love the big rectangular display. Have you tried the express 15 to just refresh something yet? I've always wondered it could be useful for refreshing a few items (without dirt & stains), but does it get it done in that time.

Glad to hear there is no more balancing problems.

All the best with the new machine, Happy Washing :)

I had a Indesit machine for ten years and it washed and washed a bit similar to our old zanussi but that was starting to rust away after 29 years. Indesit machines if not too compliacted and treated with respect can last a while. Alway's keep the door adjar after washing and clean the cabinet. wash the dispenses now and again keep the door seal dry with a towell. Treat your machine a bit like your car. The trouble with modern machines is that the spin speeds are getting to fast for the size of the cabinet. The iold machines of 800 rpm to 1000 are much better for lasting than the current generation. The faster the spin speed the more concrete is needed. Silly how fashion has taken over from common sense

dyson2drums: Thank yoou! I love the styling too! Not yet used the 15min programme but I will and I shall report back!

Hey keith! I have to agree if you look after your machine it will repay you in service!

As requested:

Standard paddle vs the newly fitted aqualtis paddles!

That paddle is much better Darren! Im not a fan of the modern paddles which dont go across the depth of the drum. The small paddles seem to be quite common with a lot of machines now.

When you put it like that......

i gotta agree. For a modern machine i think our Zanussi Essential (which for those who don't know is almost the same as Darren's Essential) is pretty good.

The programs are pretty quick for a new machine - Cottons 40c at 1:45, reduced to 1 hour with SuperQuick selected, only about 15mins extra for a 60c Cotton cycle. The balancing system is spot on & the drum & paddles don't feel like they're gonna self destruct mid-cycle like on many other machines.

However, the static-fill set-up is frustrating to put it mildly. Especially (as Darren said) it can sometimes take an age of tumbling around with no water before it decides to top-up. It also never adds an extra rinse if it detects too much foam during the spins - instead it just static drains, tumbles, spins & repeats for aaaaages until the foam vanishes. It's certainly a water-conscious idea, but it does make me wanna scream because just by adding a small amount of water to the sump, it could flush away the foam in no time.

The lack of progress indicators Darren dislikes also annoys me abit, because older Zanussi's had them, but we did both see this before we bought the machine so i guess i shouldn't moan too much. It seems their latest ZWG models mostly have an LED display so you at least know how long is left to run, rather than 'Wash', 'Door' and 'End' as on mine & Darrens machines.

Thankfully with my Essential being some sort of Limited-run machine, it has a variable temp control which allows 30c washes for Cotton, Synthetics & Delicates which Darren's doesn't have. Also because it's one of the earlier models (badged Zanussi-Electrolux rather than purely Zanussi like Darrens) it also has an Extra Rinse button instead of the stupid 'Auto Half Load' button that Darrens has, which isn't needed as it doesn't use enough water anyway! Therefore i don't have the complaints that Darren has, but it's fair to say that Darren's machine is the Essential machine you would've usually found on-sale (mine is pretty rare) therefore there could be many more similarly frustrated customers, like Darren.

The main selling point of Zanussi's for me has been their dependability, which is why me, my Parents & the rest of the family have so many Zanussi (or Electrolux) appliances. However, it's interesting to see how other manufacturers are doing things, so that if Zanussi's quality continues to be thinned out, i'll know which make is the strongest alternative!

Liam.

Liam:

I'm glad you can agree with my frustrations and I'm not just being fussy.

Your model was an independent special through euronics for example who I was a trainee manager for and sold many to people in rural Lincolnshire as I travelled for that job!

The static fill is well annoying. I noticed the Indesit just now with a full load constantly refilling until everything was really wet and dripping. A proper fill!

Mark: Yea the paddles are much better and really tumble the load well :-)

I'm now going back to check the progress of a load of darks on synthetic 30!

Darren
