Too cool!

And the boxes appear to be un-opened. But I can't help but wonder if they were purchased, tucked back into storage for a decade or two, and then sprung on the list. Would they hold the same sort of cachet as a pair of mid-60's models? Could anyone restrain themselves from powering them up for another 20 years : )

This is very tempting, but I suspect that shipping costs would be prohibitive. Really a dream come true for those of us that miss our Filter flo machines.
 
Quite honestly, wouldn't trust anyone but the (expensive) Craters and Freighters to ship such a valuable item.

Indeed, unless one could transport such an item themselves, would really hesitate on bidding. I mean what will you do if the thing arrives banged up to death?

No sense in openly bidding on these--you'll just drive up the price needlessly--whomever wins them will do so by snipe anyway.

Any reputable shipper will allow you to insure the items, so no sense in sweating that either. You can still have an accident, even if you move them yourself.

Really nice looking pair. What would they sell for new on today's market? $1500.00? Pretty close I'd imagine.
 
Those are nice...

I remember when I was a kiddo and I would love to go to the electronics and appliance dealers and see these. They the Kenmore belt-drive we had at home SOOOO boring in comparison. You'd open one of these up and it was just full of mini-basket, filter, dispenser, styrofoam, plastic, and booklets! And loved the smell of new washer.
 
Interesting how these things work out. I hemmed and hawed and finally decided that regardless of shipping costs, this was worth bidding for. As I was placing my bid, my computer crashed and I couldn't get it going until today.

Well, I hope they at least went to someone who will appreciate them and who perhaps hasn't had much previous success in scoring a dream machine or two.

While I think these will run for a long time, the new owner may want to scour around and have a few parts on hand - I suspect parts are getting scarce.
 
Think These May Have Gone For More, Pre "Credit Crisis&

People are cutting back and or are being forced to cut back. Charging one grand or so without worry on paying the bill isn't easy for many these days.

Am seeing lots of things that normally went for huge sums on eBay, move at well below four figures these days. As for myself, unless it is something one really NEEDS, am very shy about pulling that snipe trigger.
 
I was the winning bidder at 600.00 till i got sniped at around midnight( I had to get to sleep)..for a whole 10$..for shame on you.I bid a generous 150.00 plus over the reserve and someone gets it for 10$ more.LAME!!!!

What the final bid was, because fleaBays system goes by 5 or ten dollar increments.

Someone who really wanted not only to snipe, but cover his flanks could have put in a last minute bid for 5,000USD. True you would have only been out bid by 10USD, but a snipe bid for 20USD or even 50USD wouldn't have made a difference. Well it would have driven up the final price for the winning bidder, but that is all.
 
Another Thing

Since eBay has drastically changed the process for withdrawing and or canceling a bid, it seems hardly anyone bids before the last few days or hours anymore. Considering the amount of bidders who did bid early was rather small these past years anyway, this is really saying something.

This is one reason so many are becoming turned off to eBay. Not everyone has time to sit around a computer to wait for final auction minutes. Snipe software is fine and well, but not everyone knows about them, and or is that computer savvy, or as with petit Moi, prefer to aquire my targets and launch torpedos on "manual". *LOL*

WINNING AN AUCTION!

Hi everyone,

EBAY allows us to find items, while sitting in our unmentionables at home, that we are interested in. This ranting about I WAS the winner, and flea bay, etc. are a silly waste of time. How many of you would not have some of the very cool finds without EBAY? How much time would you have had to spend going to estate sales, garage sales, flea markets, antique malls, etc. to find these items?

I used to hear folks complain about the antique mall prices a few years ago, saying that the seller found it at some garage sale, put it here at the antique mall and jacked up the price. Well, DUH! They found it, spent the time and money to do so and as the American way, are looking to make a profit on it, and pay for their antique mall seller's space.

If you really want an item, you have to be willing to pay what you can afford. I do this using auction snipe. It is not hard to use and if you really want an item, it can help make sure you get it. If price is an issue or shipping is an issue, go to the estate sales locally. You will find a nice set eventually at a price you are comfortable with. It takes time and patience. EBAY brings it all to your door for you to bid what you are willing to pay. In this case, if you really wanted the machines, bid the highest amount you are comfortable with. That way, you know that if someone else was willing to pay more, it exceeded what you were comfortable with and you can move on.

Bottom line, the WINNER was whoever paid $610. They are not lame, they just wanted them by ten more dollars than you did, and the auction winner is the high bidder.

Time to get back to the wash....

"Manual" torpedo snipes are fine but in most cases not practical. Auctions end at all hours, some listers don't post the item so it ends at an opportune time, so auto sniping is the only option. It's cheap and reliable so It's the ONLY way I bid. I know exactly what I'm willing to pay and not a penny more. Early on I got too involved in last minute bidding and often paid much more than I should have. No more.

Plus, you have to realize that in 99% of the cases at some point the item will reappear so if you miss it odds are you will get another chance.

Now, if you are bidding on a new in the box classic GE washer the odds of it coming around again are extremely slim to nonexistent so you should bid accordingly.
 
I don't see the need for a "snipe" program. I bid on something what I think it's worth, or I'm willing to pay. If I get it, that's great. If not, someone wanted it more than me, or was willing to pay more. Maybe I lose by $10.00, or a $1000.00 dollars, who knows.

Something as rare as this new set should be bid accordingly, I agree.

Yes at the rate I have been acquiring washers & dryers lately you would think they would suddenly appear here, but actually no they won't. LOL

As awesome as it would be to have this NIB set, I'm not in a position to drop that kind of $$ for a W&D right now.... AND there are others here in the LA area who are more into GE's and would covet them much more then I. Plus I already have a filter flo... one is enough. Plus I have too many as it is now!!! LOL
