It works as is and works well, but I wonder if I should clean the screens or internal pump parts or change seals. It doesn't leak amazingly since it's a 1980 unit. But not knowing much, I figured it can't hurt to ask. Thanks in advance!
If it's going to be a daily driver, changing out a the seal and impeller is a great idea. When this seal leaks, it'll run down the motor shaft and take out the motor bearings. There's two options: Whirlpool (they bought out Kitchenaid around 1986) and Hobart (used in later commercial machines). The Hobart seal and impeller kit is much better design than the Whirlpool but lately the cost has shot through the stratosphere with a listed price of $216. However, there's a few on ebay listed at $40. Grab one of these, pronto!!
Water valve replacement is also a good idea, or at least have one on hand. If it still has a dual solenoid valve, it's original. Part# 417100. They run about $13 on Ebay.
Remove the washarm (it lifts straight up) and check the plastic bushing in the upper wash arm support. It should be solid with no play in any direction. Part # 4162724.
Carefully check the upper water delivery tube, located in the upper rack. These can rot out over time and cause a significant reduction in water pressure. Part # 4171544.
