New Kitchenaid dishwasher

My Sister bought her that new K.A. dishwasher the T.O.L one with that motorized wash arm.We had Thanksgiving last night because there all going to Destin today and well I loaded the dishwasher

like I do my Kds-21.Well I am not impressed at all at it's cleaning.

I did do a Bob load and used Cascade platinum in it and hit the the right buttons,bottle wash,pro-scrub and everything.

The machine is very nice but it's no Miele.I told her over and over to get a Miele but she HATE dishwashers with filters.

So she got this machine and ignored me..My Old Kds-Superba 21 can out clean it and Miele can also very easy...

The thing I am kinda thick on is I was looking up on that new wash system and it says that it has a 1/3 H.P. motor in it..

I figured it would clean like hell compared to the Askol type pumps they use in these now days and

Whirlpool Power clean is still tied with old K-aid when it comes to cleaning power and it had a 1/3 H.P. motor in it..

Is it the low water use now that is the problem..I do use Phosphate detergent though but I don't really care for that machine.

I see that motor for the lower wash-arm being a problem...I  know pump design is a huge issue but I would have thought it would clean

much better than it did...

That sucks Wes. What didn't you like about it? Did it not clean well??

I've said it over and over but my Frigidaire Gallery 2445 is pretty much a MOL machine and it uses lower water with alternating wash arms but it cleans VERY well. I've had very very few issues with it as long as it's loaded properly. Like any dishwasher, if the water doesn't hit something, it ain't gonna clean. Not saying you loaded this one improperly....but did some stuff not get cleaned?

Joey, I've got the upper level Gallery that's about to turn 15yrs. I've never had an issue with it, it runs at least daily and gets jammed full. I think they're really good machines.

Well maybe I way overloaded it or something is wrong with it..The machine was installed Friday of last week..I did not rinse anything at all or even scrape

the food out... I turned it over in the sink and put it in..I just don't think it was me because I have loaded my Aunts Miele both of hers a ton of times..

The only difference is one of hers is a full blown commercial machine 109gallons a minute and her other one is the Le-peria I think well the door opens after..

Her dishwashers have no problems cleaning at all..That's why I begged my Sister to get a Miele the somewhat cheaper ones not like my Aunt but that is Buckhead for ya....

She wanted the Kitchenaid but she does not understand that there not the machines we grew up with..

The new wash system in the kitchenaid has a cartridge filter in the pump. It rinses out as it goes, but there is still a mesh filter in this system.

I think that's one of the downsides of any newer dishwasher; any quantity of food larger than what can pass through the sump grate. Even with the PowerClean and the Maytag-Voyager I have a small silicone spatula that is used almost exclusively for sweeping plates and bowls into the sink. I'm sure a pea or a few grains of rice or oatmeal would be fine, but anything larger than that could hinder performance, especially with the small return opening that leads down to the pump on the newest machines.

1/3HP Motor

I checked out the parts list and while I cannot find any photos of the actual motor yet....it looks beefy in the drawings. But.....if any of you have seen the Clean Water Wash demo video, that water circulation from this pump looks paltry at best!
So I don't know what to say....if that is indeed the flow from this seemingly powerful motor.....then it seems greatly inefficient and you're getting ripped off for power.

I'm not a fan of either of the mechanical wash arms that are in KA and KM machines. The PowerWave/TargetClean is one thing because they both have plenty of jets, and from the videos taken of them, they actually are impressive. The motorized stuff though, I think I'll pass. The water looked skimpy even from the clear dish cube they show it in. I wish Whirlpool would bring the Clean Water system to their machines without requiring that you have a motorized arm along with it.

KA has the KDTM 355DSS without the motorized wash arms but the Clean Water Wash System.

That dishwasher has bugged me all night..I don't understand why  new dishwashers all have to have bottle washers and that pro-scrub thing and there

is this other thing were water comes out..

Then you have Miele three racks three wash arms but will wash like hell..The filter I very rarely find anything in them even with me loading it down..

The one thing that might be a possibility is there was a old 2001 Viking dishwasher she changed out  and it was the cold water hook up type..

Do you think the morons at Sears would have changed that out or even noticed...That would really screw up the wash system my Sisters

water comes from a very deep well on her property and the water is SOOO cold and hard also that is why I told her to get a Miele with a water-softener.

Most those euro dishwashers require cold water, but they use a better heat system..My Smeg requires a cold water hook up just like that old Viking..

I am not sure but those old Viking dishwashers remind me of old Asko dishwashers..

I have O.C.D. on somethings I think most us guys do on here to one extent or another..I am not talking about the folks that turn light on off seven times or the sun will

go out.I have a friend that is like that and it's very sad..

It drives me nuts when I am missing something and I know something is wrong..My old Kitchenaid could have cleaned that load on normal in what 40 mins or so

but 4 hours and there not clean..Something is a miss..It's either hooked to the cold water or that filter system is broke...

@johnb300m - I noticed that about the demo video and wondered the same thing, however, when looking closer at that pipe, it does look pretty large in diameter. The tubing in the actual dishwasher is much more narrow, so that volume of water would kick out some pretty decent pressure. Think of a lawn hose with nothing attached; it's just a solid but slow pour of water. Holding it straight up doesn't generate very much upward spray. But attached to a hand nozzle? You could wet the neighbors windows across the street with the right setting.

Asko used to make some of Viking's dishwashers...I'm not sure from what year to what year, but they did and might still.  I've seen some on CL and eBay and when they show the model sticker, it says "Made in Sweden" and has the Asko letter "A" on the side.

Does this dishwasher operate spray arms all at the same time or does it alternate between zones?
