It's interesting that lg has their own version of smart dispense. I wonder if their reservoir caps are the kinds you twist to open or close or a flip design. Also, what will the control panel be like? Will they have buttons or will they be touch screen operated? I'd like to know. I'm already interested.
 
David, my Duet has the ability to adjust the amount dispensed based upon the concentration level of the liquid itself (2x, 3x, ...) Then, the "hardness" or "softness" of the water. The machine further adjusts based upon cycle, load/garment weight, and soil level. Unfortunately that fine degree of dosage was eliminated with the current generation of WP/MT FLers. Based upon what I read as well as you pointing out, looks like the LG isn't as automatic, the user has to make adjustments particularly if the load size vary significantly from one to another.
 
The reservoir caps twist off and the control panel has buttons. There is no touch screen. Go to Home Depot's website and read the manual.

Bob, LG's press release about the ezDispense said "LG’s new user-friendly ezDispense feature takes the guesswork out of detergent dosage by automatically adding the exact amount of liquid detergent and fabric softener customized for each load size at optimal times during the wash cycle for improved results".

I'm curious if LG's system is as intuitive as your WP's. My guess is probably not but it's still nice to have it dispense the detergent and fabric softener automatically.
 
The text of the initial description is the same as for the WM3900 on the web page.

The brief mention of the AI DD feature in the manual leads me to believe that the Normal Cycle, when not selecting heavy soil, is supposed to be able to adapt to any type of load and perform accordingly. Then I want to fill the thing will a FULL load of towels, wash cloths, and hand towels and select Extra Hot and see what it would do. Has ALWAYS bugged the h*ll out of me that the towels cycle doesn't allow for extra hot or steam function. Towels cycle really should be called Jeans. And I still think it's silly to limit Brightest Whites to 15 lb. capacity. I couldn't do that. [this post was last edited: 8/9/2020-18:20]

LG have been putting jets in their machine long before Miele ever put them in theirs. The LG is not a cheap knock off. Its an entirely different system and the Miele is way overrated using such little water and is not clever enough to automatically know to add extra water or extra rinse when needed. On the Miele one has to select Water Plus - What in 2020!

At least an LG knows that it needs to automatically adjust its rinses.

The jet found in a Miele is also what has been found back in 90s and early 2000s Zanussi and AEG machines, its nothing amazing Just like Miele, being overrated and slipping quality standards.
 
For me I see zero value in an auto dispense system. As firmly confirmed pod person (
smiley-laughing.gif
) it would be of no use to me.  Have always truly disliked liquid detergents and never use them.  Powder or pods, and pods are a big winner for me.
 
The only pods I use are cascade pods and find they do great in the dishwasher. As for laundry it is only Tide regular powder or Tide/w bleach powder when I can get it.Tide is the ONLY powder left at my local ShopRite.
 
Cost wise I've never had an issue finding pods on sale at a reasonable cost.  As I said I will never use a liquid as I have a great dislike for the product.    Powder is fine but I like the results I get with pods so I'll stick with them.

enough to operate a non smart appliance. Sorry, but all these new fangled smart things reminds me of the movie where a computer holds a woman hostage inside her house. Yes, fact is always strabger than fiction though.
 
LG just posted five new videos about the new ezDispense system in the new WM 4500.

It's somewhat intuitive as it will automatically adjust the amount of softener and detergent dispensed up to 30% depending on the load size.

 
Telling the dryer what to do . . . .

I'm looking at the WM4000 washer which seems to be the replacement for the famous WM3900.

Like the square door machines, the 4000 says it has the same AI stuff to analyze the load and make decisions and pass cycle info on to the dryer, but I don't see anything in the manuals for any of the AI.

I understand that the load analysis is automatic and will tweak whatever cycle you select, apparently no input from the user needed or possible.

Same for telling the dryer what to do? It says: "Washer can auto-select a compatible drying cycle." CAN select tells me I have a choice, but I don't see a button any info about how to use it/control it.

Anyone find anything?

Everything old is new again

Even my grandma's early 2000s Miele will adjust the Cotton cycle depending on the load sensed: cottons, synthetics or mixed loads... a different cycle pattern is executed. Wash time, tumble pattern, rinses, water level, spin profile - everything is adjusted. There's also a dedicated Automatic cycle to promote/take advantage of the sensing capabilities.

As far as the washer suggesting a cycle to the companion dryer: when GE brought the Harmony pair on the market (made by LG) the washer and dryer were connected via a serial cable and the washer would send a cycle suggestion to the dryer. When did they hit the market? 15 years ago?
