Mike-- My LG had a 3rd (top) rack that held flatware/cutlery/utensils. Don't recall ever using the actual flatware basket in the lower rack. Appreciated having every square inch of the entire bottom rack for huge / oddly-shaped cookware. Mine endured nearly commercial-level use. I was still cooking an ungodly amount of food each week and having a lot of company for meals.
It survived five years of extremely heavy use before (as you recalled) a leaky drain hose wrecked a section of the kitchen underflooring. There was, unfortunately, no vinyl floor covering under the dishwasher; it was bare wood. The slow leak kept soaking into the floor rather than running forward and alerting me to an issue. Figured out something was wrong when the floor went all spongy in front of the sink right around Thanksgiving of 2013. Most sane people would have simply replaced the drain hose, but I had the itch to try something new (TOL GE in this case) and, frankly, no longer trusted the machine.
Still hands-down my favorite dishwasher. Great features, illuminated interior, 3rd rack (which was still a fairly rare feature back then) and a cavernous interior. The GE was quieter and cleaned very well, but interior space was notably tighter and racking/tine-spacing was not great.
