Well, it is not the ideal dream machine I have been wanting. It sort of fell in my lap. A neighbor up the street lost her husband and she moved into a nursing home. The daughter is moving into the house and doing renovations. I spotted the machine in their carport and wanted to look at it but could never make contact (hoping it was an A806). I mentioned to another neighbor I was "curious" about it. Friday night he called and said he had it on his trailer and was bringing it to me (fell in my lap). Per the "owner" the machine ran like a charm, with no problems. That was not the case---all I can say is I bet somebody will be replacing some flooring and possible joists as this thing has leaked for quite some time!
It is rough--the drain hose from the tub to the pump leaks as does the fill tube injector--it sprays water all over when filling. Evidently this has been happening for quite sometime as there is rust all over the areas the water contacts. I wanted to make sure the mechanicals (timer, pump, motor and transmission) worked okay before putting any more money in it. I did as you all suggest--poured in hot water and let it sit. I also popped off the front cover and the control panel cover to inspect the wiring (looked good). There was a huge rats nest in the inside area--appeared to be "fresh". The rodents had not started on ruining any of the machine-fortunately!
Everything checked out so I cleaned up the nasty rats nest and their mess, applied power and started it up. She seems to work llike a charm! Motor sounds good, timer works, pump pumps water and the water valves appear to be okay as well. No funky noises! I went on to wash several loads of laundry to see how she behaved before ordering the needed parts. She did well!
The jury is still out on the pump--whether it leaks or not. There is such a drip coming down the tub drain tube that it is hard for me to tell if the pump is a leaker or not.
I have ordered a new tube and "water injector" for it and the parts should be here this week. I hate that so much of the parts are NLA--I know, join the club on that

I am not sure what I am going to do with this machine! I may keep it as I do miss having a top loader!! That Maytag sound really brought back good memories--I had forgotten how quiet those old machines were. I also love that the sticker is still on the back of the console showing where it was purchased from Georgia Power Company back in 1975
