Hi everyone. This is such a great club!! I just joined and was wanting to see if there are any other members close to me. I am in the far western burbs of chicago, Naperville/Warrenville area. Would love to find someone with the same interests close to my area. Thanks and I hopefully will find my Norge dream machine SOON.

Hi Mark, any Norge from the timeline on as long as its the solid tub model. I grew up with a timeline washer AND dryer as a kid and would love to have the memories again. So any solid tub Norge would be my dream machine. I would also consider the Hotpoint solid tub washer as well, but my ultimate dream is for the Norge. I have been looking around my area at estate sales and havent found anything yet. We have an appliance outlet very close to my house and was thinking of talking to him. He picks up old appliances and fixes them and resells them.

Thanks for the welcome Gansky1. I am glad to hear there are other members in and around Chicago. I will be watching for there posts and hopefully can get to know them.

Hi Rick, welcome to the group. I come across Norge Time Lines every now and then. I just got rid of two more that I had found earlier this year. I think I know of another one in PA not far from the Ohio border. I will check on it and let you know if its still available. I think its a 1956 model, with the Luxury Line script on the front. Im in Ohio btw, near Akron and Im lucky to have found a mint Norge Dispensomat from 1958, its a real beauty!

Welcome to the group Rick, I think that you will find this a very friendly group. I live in Danville, Il. The only vintage washer I have is my daily driver.a set of 1985 White Westinghouse spacemates. Glad you have joined us. Terry

Hello Rick

Rick:
Welcome to the group. I live up north of you near McHenry/Fox Lake. It would be nice to get to know some guys in the area that enjoy this stuff. I hope we can connect sometime soon.
Best Regards,
Bill

Rick, Welcome to the group. It's funny that you should mention solid tub Norge washers. I was just thinking this morning about a neighbor who had worn out an early 50s Kenmore and replaced it with a GE from maybe 1960. It had the plastic filter pan that covered the top of the agitator. One day while I was watching it wash for the first time, I commented on it not having spray rinses in the spin between the wash and rinse. She said that she had noticed that also, but that even without them, the rinse water was much clearer in the GE than in the Kenmore. Then I thought about some washer report or rating from long ago that said that one of the benefits of solid tub machines was that they generally rinsed better.

I remember a Norge demonstration that a salesman was giving to two potential customers in our downtown Rich's Department Store. The machine was full of water and agitating when he reached up and took two or three pop-up facial tissues and dropped them in the swirling and surging water. Within less than a minute, the agitator was puking tissue fragments into the filter pan and the ladies were impressed. Lint was something that became an issue with automatic washers, especially the agitator type. Having the water drain away from the clothes was the culprit. With a wringer washer, the clothes were lifted out of the wash water, leaving the lint behind. There was not much lint generated in the hand rinsing and any that might be present was allowed to settle to the bottom of the tub when the clothes were picked up to go through the wringer. You did not want to wash good dark clothes in linty wash water from all of the lighter colored laundry, but things like my grandfather's overalls were always washed last and I don't remember any lint problem with them. Besides, most of it would blow away in the breeze as the clothes were hanging on the lines.

Wow, this is a friendly group. Thanks for all the welcomes and information! Congrats on your Norge dispensomat Filterflo, and YES please let me know if that 1956 Norge is still available. You would make my dream come true. Thanks for the bit of history about solid tub washers Tomturbomatic. I have always thought that the solid tub washers with the overflow rinse gave a much better rinse then the perforated tub washers. Keep all the welcomes and info comming. I love this group already!
