New Miele DW filter...sigh

The filter assembly in my 2005 Miele Premiere Plus has worn out. The small yellow flap in the bottom of the assembly which one opens to clean out the filter is hinged on one side by the thinnest of plastic hinges. It's finally worn out, and the next time I open the flap will, I know, be the last. I called Miele to order a new filter assembly, and was not too shocked to discover they are $85.00 and $15.00 shipping from NJ to SC. I was hoping to get more than 5 years' service out of an integral part of the DW. I could have attempted to fix it with super glue, but decided against it. It's been a fine DW, and bloody well should be for the $2,450.00 MSRP! Thank goodness I got a floor model for 1/2 that figure.

Heads up to you Miele DW owners out there...watch the hinge on your yellow filter flap!

My G2220 is 4.5 years old and the filter is just as strong as the day it was bought. When you say Yellow, do you mean bright yellow or Beige?

I'm wondering if they changed the filter to try and make it obvious to the US Market what needs to be cleaned? My Filter is all Beige plastic, the same colour as the basket wheels.

Oops...my bad. It is, of course, beige. The little latch opposite the offending hinge is yellow. See pic attached.
The filter isn't clean, I know, but I don't want to be vigorous or even gently clean the filter for fear that the scrap of plastic holding it on will fail. I should have the replacement in a week or so.

I am lucky with my hotpoint as its a self cleaning filter which is great. Hope you sort your machine out

I had this happen on my previous Miele after 10 years. The bottom of the filter(the yellow part) will still latch even if that flap is disconnected. I just put the two parts together and pressed. All was fine and once seated in the sump there were no problems.

That's what I was thinking too. Couldn't you just take the top, put it in place and apply a little bit of pressure to snap it shut?

Just been on Miele website and noticed they will be having a Cheadle Experience Centre which is to open in 2011.

I don,t live to far from Cheadle, so will have to book a tour, lol.
