Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

LUCKY!!!

I wish I could afford a set and had the space! However, there won't be much room in a dorm room for a set come fall... lol

However, I think I might prefer the stainless Miele Professional version of this set!

Congratulations mieleforme, I can't wait to hear all ya have to say about them. YOu taking off work, playing with the machines, and doing laundry?

I would dig that professional set for sure. I’ve seen them before, but talk about expensive…. $3700.00 for this set was on the edge of too much, but I’m going to trust in Miele and hopefully make out better in the long run.

Working shift work I have the next two days off so yes, I will be putting these things to the test. Wife should enjoy not having to do the laundry for a few more days/weeks. I even scored the service manuals for both units; I have already decided what program functions I am going to change with both the washer and dryer. What a nerd I am……

What a nerd I am……

Naaaww, not at all. Just being cool, in tune, and in touch. What functions are ya going to change? How were ya able to get a set of the service manuals? Can't wait to hear your feedback.

I’ve decided to turn on the suds cooling, Sensor controlled rinse process, Hygiene option and turn off the bleach dispenser, as I will not be using it. I’m going to experiment with the factory set water levels before I adjust those. However I see myself adding the extra rinse option, not sure on increasing the water levels yet, maybe both who knows.

On the dryer I am only adding an extra 10 min cool down period for now. Depending on my drying results I will go back and adjust the conductivity settings and or dryness levels on the moisture monitor.

I got the manuals from someone on the Garden Web form. If anyone wants them shoot me your email.

Cool!!! Looking forward to hearing about your observations and perceptions. I thought about ya a couple of times during work today thinkin that guy is home bonding with his Mieles. I'll send ya an email a little bit later.

"Hygiene Info"

Maybe you already know it .... anyway repetita juvant :)

Hygiene Info
- Off
- On

is NOT a true sanitize cycle for laundry. It displays a warning on the screen when the previous cycle had a temp lower than 140°F.
The washer asks you if you want to sanitize the tub before your next load. Not necessary if next load will be @ 140 at least,
maybe it is useful if you're about to wash your wool jumper and your neighbour has just washed dog blankets ....

If you enter "ok" the machine will run a empty short, very hot cycle to sanitize the tub.

This feature is used on the Little Giants in condos / multiple households installations or laundromats
IMHO it is useless in a normal household, where one (maybe 2) person deal with laundry and does know what he/she has done before

"Hygiene Info"

According to what I read it prompts you to to a high temp (sanitize cycle) if you haven't done a high temp cycle in a while. Just to insure the machine stays clean. I know its not that big of a deal considering I will be doing hot washes but I thought I would switch it on any how. I doubt I will ever see the prompt to "clean Machine, or sanitize" But you know..... Just incase :)

nice machines

... it very strange to see some miele laundry appliances without the good old yellow key to open the door.

There's no game, the W48XX look far better than the european 24" series W4000/W6000.

I find this W6766 a bit out of proportion to the W4840

W4000/W6000

I agree, I also don't like that solid round door on the dryer it looks odd. I like the fact they are both glass on this series. So far, I understand why I paid what I did. Seriously, these machines are so well thought out, even if they don't last 15 years I'll continue to buy Miele. Even the drums look cool!

reprogramming

As far as the washer goes adjust what you want. I tried to reprogram my 4800 and it wont work. But on the dryer you may find that it wont need reprogramming. Try it the way it is straight from the factory first. Oh and you wont need an extra 10 mins for cooldown. The clothes are room temp when the dryer stops. The other thing I have to stress is DONT USE DRYER SHEETS!! The powder from the sheets clog the filter and impede the airflow and you will hear it. Enjoy your set.

Nice Insides!

The insides look similar - here is the smaller W3033 model for the USA.

Love mine!!!

reprogramming

yea, I'm not noticing my selection being changed. Wonder why that is? It is doing a good job however.

mmmmm

Stainless v's plastic outer drums....

...and it is interesting that Miele does nothing to protect their electronics from any potential water/moisture issues...

With mine I got the repair manual and I am thinking that maybe the manuals have been superceded by another updated manual. Nothing what they said to do worked. One thing with the washer is you may find that you wont need the Extended wash option. I never use mine since the HydroMatic wash action is so powerful that it will over work your clothes and they will come out looking very tired. Plus it extends the total wash time to about 2+ hours.
The dryer is very fast. I have the electric 9800 and the load rarely ever gets above body temp. Stop the dryer about midway thru the cycle and you will see that the load isnt hot like in other dryers. They work as a team and I always use the Max spin speed. That alone makes the dryer do its job fast. The dryer will be done before the washer is.
And one other thing. When using the dryer make sure you can open a window near the dryer to let fresh air into the room. This dryer will pull all the heat out of your house in the wintertime. And in no time flat too. If you hear the fan struggling to get proper airflow thru the drum it is very noticeable in the sound. As you use the dryer you will see what I mean.

Nice Insides!

I agree they are well designed. The quality of the lid even impressed me. The stainless outer tub looks very nice, good thing I don't have to look at my plastic one everyday :)

When I washed our comforter last night (Cal King, fits great) I was even more impressed. The venting process the washer goes through for the master care "comforters" selection is brilliant. So simple but very effective. Well Done Miele, bravo!

Chris

that hose you can see on the top of the tub vents steam into the *sealed* drawer to condensate, so no moisture in the cabinet.

PC boards need to be cooled down. The tub itself is a heat source, a protection may make things worse

Your Zanussi-Westinghouse has that hose too :)

Electronics/Drum

Actually I thought putting the electronics on top was a good protection measure. Im my Maytag Neptune there was a control board under the tub with little protection. Probably the stupid place possible to put it.

As for the Plastic Drum. I have been told that it was designed to accommodate the American market using bleach. Apparently bleach sitting in the bottom of a SS drum isn't a good thing. I don't use bleach in this machine but the option is nice. I will say this plastic drum is supper thick and very, very strong. It almost appears to be a little over built, but I guess thats why a Miele will run for years.

Fiberglas

It was mentioned over in the archived thread below (which contains more disassembly pics, btw) that the tub is actually a kind of fiberglass so it should be quite durable since they make boats out of that stuff. The other stated benefit (besides bleach resistance) is that it helps hold the heat in better than a single-wall stainless tub, which is especially important with the larger sized tub. Considering it only has a 120v heater onboard, the more help it can get from the design keeping all that volume heated the better. That's probably less of an issue on the EU sized machines given the smaller capacity.

thanks for the photos, guys!

Andrew, thanks for taking the time to pop the top on your new 3033... I'm actually going after work today to do some pre-shopping for one of my own!

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity his offering a 15% rebate on ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers and room air conditioners for items purchased from participating retailers during April 16 – 25, 2010.

I'm going to find out details, if I have to wait to actually purchase it in April or just take delivery then. Don't want to miss out on this opportunity--the rebate will take ~$300 off the price.

Great vid. Lookin forward to more. Cute kids. Good to know the Miele will be really be put through it's paces dealin with kid laundry!!
