Picked up this Philco washer and a Philco Miss America dryer last week. Turned out to be quite an ordeal to get them out of the sellers house, which was a dirty stinky smelly mess. I wont go in to detail on the house, but I had to keep taking fresh air breaks by running outside in order to keep from getting sick..........it was beyond words........Unloaded them from my van and left them outside to airout until the weather warmed up enough to hose them down and disinfect them! Finally started on the washer yesterday...........
Pic of the Philco motor and pump. Spyder webs are a good sign! Spyders dont like water, so seeing this MIGHT mean the washer didnt have any bad leaks.........
I wonder if the owners knew there was a lint filter in here? It was completely full and so gross......I had to soak it and get it softened up to finally pry it apart.......
Well, lo and behold it works! The rubber is very worn on the agitator and will need a complete rebuild, but the high frequency wash action can be seen here and there are no leaks!
My helper Blackie! Hes a baby! and hes loves Philcos too! Next project will be to tackle the Philco Miss America dryer and get it cleaned up too. All in all I was thrilled to get these in spite of the nasty house they came out of. To their credt they are both complete with no dents or bad rust, but both are going to be an ambitious restoration with a complete repaint needed and lots of clean up.
