Picked up this Philco washer and a Philco Miss America dryer last week. Turned out to be quite an ordeal to get them out of the sellers house, which was a dirty stinky smelly mess. I wont go in to detail on the house, but I had to keep taking fresh air breaks by running outside in order to keep from getting sick..........it was beyond words........Unloaded them from my van and left them outside to airout until the weather warmed up enough to hose them down and disinfect them! Finally started on the washer yesterday...........

My helper Blackie! Hes a baby! and hes loves Philcos too! Next project will be to tackle the Philco Miss America dryer and get it cleaned up too. All in all I was thrilled to get these in spite of the nasty house they came out of. To their credt they are both complete with no dents or bad rust, but both are going to be an ambitious restoration with a complete repaint needed and lots of clean up.

Very cool Jimmy!
Amazing that you found them both at the same house!
You are a Philco Magnet.
Thanks for the pictures.
Tell Blackie hello for me.

Love the Philco set

Guess I need to find a set to go with my new stove! I was lucky to see Mark's Philco in action when I was down there, amazing action from that system. Great pictures, will be a good series on a total restore job.

Congratulations on another save & restore.

Hoo-boy there sure was a lot of icky poo in that washer. I think the reason those center-post lint filters tend to get full like that is, people don't bother to read the manual and find out they have to clean it out after each load.

So, what exactly is that agitator? Is that a flexible contoured rubber disc over a plastic molding? And what's all the dark crud at the bottom (or should I ask?), did it come off without too much scrubbing?

The mechanism with the pressed steel bottom and the accessible belt is clever as heck, must make it relatively easy to change a belt.

What are you going to do to repaint the cabinet where all that rust is near the top?

(How it is that people don't clean their appliances, or their houses for God's sake!, is beyond me. My place can get to looking like an industrial workshop with piles of geek-junque all over, but at least it's clean in the sense of being sanitary and free of health hazards. A few times in my life I've seen houses that looked like they badly needed to be dunked in bleach just to disinfect. Ick.)

Thanks guys. This washer really is not as bad as it looks as far as cosmetics. The case is acutally one of the easy parts of the restoration. I totally remove the case, sand it down, prime it, then give it several coats of white enamel. As far as these coming out of a stinky dirty house (which it was) the PEOPLE that I got this from stunk to high heaven as bad or worse than the house. It was really them more than the house that made me sick to my stomach!!!! I will post pictures of the dryer as soon as I get to it, in the next couple of days.........

Is that a 65 770 Rambler I see peeking out

from the garage? I see a good old chrome bumper there too, but can't tell what it is..
