Spotted at Dollar General:

It looks like Purex Complete sheets got reformulated and repackaged. The new version comes in a box instead of a plastic carrier. And it contains 10x concentrated detergent, according to the front. It also now has "Repel Stain Blocker Technology", which "helps protect agaisnt dirt and stains".

Henkel also redesigned the packaging for Trend, which looks more modern than the previous packaging.

More new products:

Mr. Clean w/Febreze New Zealand Springs - It's has a nice, crisp scent. It's bolder compared to Meadows & Rain. I'll skip it and wait until the fragrance comes out in the Febreze Noticeables line and get that instead.

Also from Mr. Clean - A Magic Eraser for the Kitchen. Has Dawn grease cutters in it.

Next month is when the new P&G concentrated powders come out. I've seen the pictures, but I'm anxious to see it in person.

Purex

You just made me curious to find out more about it`s so-called "Repel Stain Blocker Technology" on the Purex site and then I found something much more interesting.

There is a new Purex with Zout which *might* be a cost saving alternative to German Persil. Surfactants and water softeners seem to differ a lot from Persil, but it does include 3 enzymes in it`s formulation. (Protease, amylase and mannanase)

This could be Henkel`s first TOL detergent on the US market.

I think Dial is owned by Henkel.  There was a post on this site a while back about them building a new USA office.

I did like the Purex Advanced Powder when it came out around 2000. I wish they would bring that back. But its demise was the fact that people had this idea that if its Purex its not worth the money they were asking for the Advanced formula. In other words...its not Tide. I will check out the Purex with Zout. The only this I find that Zout doesnt take out much.

Henkel took over ownership of Dial in March of 2004.  If they were to bring a Persil like detergent to the US you would have thought they would have done it by now.

From what I know, Trend is a lower quality powder, much like Purex Classic and Sun.

FINALLY!!

I knew this would eventually happen and I'm glad it did. However, I hope it doesn't ride away in the sunset like Wisk powder. I liked that stuff.

Well...there is talk of a new scent experience... which I don't need.  There is talk of a smaller container delivering the same amount of loads.  There is some mention of outstanding performance which P&G always said was there in the first place.

 

There is no picture of an HE detergent..perhaps I missed it.

 

I will wait to see it in the store and then wait to read the ingredients on line to see  if  it contains the same kinds of enzymes as their liquids, because the current He powders do not.

So this is a repeat of the super concentrated, low foaming powders of the late 80s that were discontinued because stupid bovines refused to use less product and did not like non-sudsing detergents. They had been using that tea cup as a measure for decades and now the box was smaller than the tea cup. Maybe with more HE machines that will not be as much of an issue, althought they did not mention front loaders, only top loaders, in this announcement.

I found that I still have some Wisk HE tablets. The sad thing is the tablets won't dissolve in the dispenser, nor if added to the cylinder because of the extremely low water level in wash so they have to be mashed into powder which eliminates tablet convenience.

I also have some Surf Spring Burst with long lasting freshness tablets with a liitle note on the side panel stating that they are compatible with he and front loading machines. I think I will open a box and have a Surf Sunday laundry adventure. The box is yellow, orange and purple. The bottom front has a tilt-out panel for dispensing the tablet packs.

I also have a partially used box of Purex he tablets.

Tom, how can you assume these compacted versions are also going to be low foaming powders?  Personally, I think that would be great!!

What I was driving at in my first sentence was that the super concentrated powders were withdrawn because people objected to the concentrated formula, and would not use less per load, as much as they objected to the lack of foam. Sorry I confused anyone. It was a major blow to a plan on the part of detergent manufacturers to save money by offering the same cleaning power in smaller quantities, thus saving on shipping, manufacturing and packaging. By saving in those ways, they could afford to use the more expensive and lower sudsing surfactants. The fillers in detergents increase costs in shipping, manufacturing and packaging IF you are trying to offer a quality detergent that delivers good results and economy of use. If you are selling something like Super Suds in huge boxes where you need two tea cups per load, it's a different story. The size of boxes of Tide he offering a similar number of loads per box have grown and shrunk over the years. I have found that I still get good cleaning with 2 tablespoons of Tide and two of STPP. I think I have 5 unopened boxes of 80 load size and at 2 tablespoons per load, I hope and think they are going to last a while.

I had to chuckle when I saw the reference to the teacup as a measuring cup.....that's exactly what my Grandmother used for years to measure her Tide.  When we cleaned out her house after she died, I brought home that teacup, along with her 1969 GE Filter-Flo.

 

I do hope the new powders smell the same and are low foaming...I love the smell of Tide Powder Original, but the new Speed Queen TL "whips up" to many suds to use....
