New retro handmixer. It's pink!

While discussing V-Zug appliances and looking around at the Swiss Fust website, I noticed that they had a pink Bosch handmixer in their assortment. I looked at the Dutch Bosch website, but this particular model wasn't there.

So I shopped around a bit at German websites. I noticed that Otto.de had it, so I checked out their Dutch website. And yes, they had it. It was even on sale! €26,99 is $31.73. So not bad for a handmixer. With a few euros for delivery I'm not the owner of a pink handmixer!

To be honest, the quality is not anymore what it used to be. It's very light weight, but on the other hand not very loud. I don't use a handmixer much anyway, but it's always nice to have one at hand. The somewhat older Siemens handmixer moved to the appliance cupboard in the guestroom.

I already had a blue mixing bowl, I think it goes very well with the pink.

I think the colour looks great, we have a similar machine here but in all black which I think does not look so good, and they are not that excellent price either! I hope you get lots of use from it

I bought a Braun Multimix a year or two ago. My Kenwood chef hasn't been used since. The little hand mixer is great.

The body of the Braun is different but the beaters and dough hooks look the same as yours.

Mike, yes, some appliances come with donations to breast cancer research, but this Bosch doesn't I'm afraid.

Al, Bosch is making all kinds of varations right now. It's almost if there is a revival of the handmixer.

Chris, I have one of those Braun mixers too, it's about ten years old now I guess. I got it NIB at a thriftshop, the box was never opened. With a metal handblender attachment and a mini chopper attachment it was 20 euros. The breaters and dough hooks are similar indeed, but not the same. The Braun's highest speed seems a bit slower than the Bosch's. But perhaps the Braun has better torque. I use handmixers only for light cake batters etc. so it will probably never be tested to the max.

BTW Al, I could only find one black model similar to mine. That one is more expensive but also has a more powerful motor (500 Watts vs 375). Here's a picture.

Suppose the cord attached on top of the handle makes it very convenient for left handers too.
Have you noticed there is also a turquoise higher end model from Bosch on Otto.de?

I think 375 Watts are plenty enough, even for the toughest bread dough there should be no need for a counter top mixer anymore as long as you don`t exceed mixing time over 5 minutes.
Got myself a new black Krups 3 Mix a few weeks ago, and can tell the old one that got replaced had less than 200 Watts and it never let me down on heavy kneading jobs.

I'm right handed, but I suppose it is great for both.

Otto has a lot of variety in Bosch mixers, Bosch really brings colour to our lives. lol

I guess the Krups is a bit better built than this Bosch. If I would do a lot of mixing I'd be interested in a Krups too.

I`m not so sure that Krups are better built than Bosch.
Krups hasn`t been a German brand anymore for a long time and my new mixer is made in China. Was hoping for it to be made in France or somewhere else in the EU, but it`s not.
The old Krups wich I used as a "daily driver" was a very noisy BOL model, but it held up well for at least 25 years and I`m sure it would still be going strong if I had not thrown it out to replace it with a new one.
The new one is super silent and more powerful, but I`m not sure it will last that long again.

Actually I was tempted to go with a Bosch too but then I decided on the Krups because I still could use the old sets of beaters.
It`s rare but it happens that beaters break if you bang too hard against the bowl.

Louis, does the Bosch say where it`s made?

I bought a Bosch HomeProfessional model on clearance (think 500W with 2 sets of beaters and 1 set of dough hooks) and damn is the thing quiet, quick and powerfull.

Don't use it much anymore since I moved, but I can highly recomend it.

The pink Bosch is made in Slovenia. IIRC Krups small appliances have been made in China for quite a while indeed. It would have been nice indeed when it would have been made in the EU. I have had an older Krups and an older Bosch handmixer. The Krups was loud indeed, but more powerful. The Bosch wasn't as noisy. Number 3 is a Reactor, the housebrand back then of the Dutch departmentstore HEMA. It's a relabelled Philips.

Krups

Its amazing that the whisks (in the mixer) did not change from the 1960s

Louis, I know the Krups you have, someone in my family had the same model in orange.
IIRC it dates back to the early 80s and it`s not nearly as loud as my previous one from the mid 90s. But not as silent as the new one.

The whisks of the Krups have indeed not changed since the 60s, it`s a true and proven design.
The doughhooks on the other hand changed quite often.
At the beginning they were just hooks without the spirals on top (no picture), then they`ve changed to the ones on the left in the 60s and finally to the ones which are still used today.

I've always found those dough hooks on the left intriguing! Dough hooks came in all kind of forms, my mother's Moulinex had dough hooks without a spiral. They were never used in our house, but I doubt if they were very effective.

Not A hand Mixer, But Cute

Hi Louis, your new pink hand mixer is cute and is probable a very hand device, A lot of electrical appliances for the kitchen are tending to get to large these days for what is actually needed.

 

I found this cute Sunny Yellow toaster oven in a thrift store Thursday for $4, its Chinese made and seems to work well, it is just large enough for one slice of bread.

Dough Hooks On the Left

I cannot say how the dough hooks (if that's what they are) would be with bread dough but my mother, who had a Krups mixer in Morphy Richards guise from 1971 or so, used them for mixes which butter (actually more correctly margarine) and sugar needed to be creamed and found them very good, she loved that mixer which I still have. The whisks I commented on previously were only used for whipping cream or eggs.

I have MR mixers similar which go back to around the mid 1960s or so

I can see how those dough hooks would work well for creaming butter and sugar. Usually whisks are used for that, but with the weaker motors of the mixers of yesteryear those hooks would probably be ideal. The Moulinex my mother had came with two kind of whisks. Thin ones for whipping cream and egg whites and thicker ones for creaming butter and sugar.
