Hi,
Just purchased a new to me SQ w/d. My Whirlpool pos finally bit the dust on Friday and I found these posted on FB Marketplace on Friday evening for $700. I think it was a fair price as they are lightly used and I was ready to pay anything for something that works! The owners traveled 6 months out of the year and apparently barely used them.

I can't tell you how exciting it is to have a washer that works! I hope both are going to be trouble free for a long while.

I'd love it if the experts here can give me opinions on this set, good and bad, and what I can expect in the way of repairs or issues. I believe this is the last year with mechanical panel instead of electronic.

Washer model #AWN432SP111TW01 Serial 1411033442
Dryer model #ADE4BRGS171TW01 Serial 1410046411

Thanks for any input!

congrats.....very, very nice set.....

you should have many trouble free years out of them.....

we can show you how to by-pass the lid switch if you want to see the washer operate with the lid open...

Yogitunes, Thank you. I was so excited when I found them and then nauseous until the washer was hooked up and working. I'm glad they were a good purchase. As far as the water level or lid switch, DH is not allowed to touch anything! Give the man some 2x4's and he'll frame you a house, let him touch anything mechanical, electrical, or plumbing, and he will break, get shocked, and have a flood. Lol. We already have tiny slow leak on the cold spigot when he set up the washer. His brother will be over tomorrow to look at it. ;o)

Lorrainefurniture, Thank you for that info. I will purchase those replacement parts now so I have them when and if needed. I also need the rubber feet.

It's pathetic that a washer would make me so happy!

Would I be able to wash pillows, quilted bedspreads, blankets, etc., in this machine without issue?

Right now I'm washing everything in the house! My whites are actually whiter!
All of my wash smells better and I use fragrance free soap product along with minimal fabric softener mixed with equal parts vinegar.

Still excited. ;o)

pillows can be finicky....some do well, some others, not so well.....there is a thread here somewhere about different methods to try.....but many times, best left to a FLer…...most times I wash them in the sink, and let the machine spin them...

quilted blankets do well in these machines versus those puffy comforters....all of my bed covers are quilted...

blankets, depending on size and bulkiness, the concern is even distribution of the load for spin.....sometimes two work well, other times, just one mixed in with a few towels...

for both of the above, a lot of times soaking does better than a full wash....let it fill and wash for about 2 minutes, shut the machine off, let soak for 15 to 30 minutes, then advance the timer for about the last 2 minutes of agitation, and complete the cycle from there...

until you get used to it, stick close to the machine when washing something of concern...

Best washer and dryer

Money can buy, especially the washer. The newer Speed Queens are all electronic and do not clean as well, actually very poorly according to consumer reports. You got the best of the best of the best in the nick of time!

Thank you, still excited that I was able to locate these so quickly and they work so well. No more half washed clothes in this house! You couldn't pay me to own another Whirlpool. Well...depends how much you want to pay me. lol.

What a refreshing sight to see an AWN series SQ posted on this site for once vs the new models that most people seem to agree aren't very good at all.

You made a wonderful purchase decision! I'm in the market to find the matching dryer to my AWNE82 and hope I get half as lucky as you do, people have realized how good these machines are so it's hard to find them used nowadays.

I have that washer too

I can only speak for the washer, but those models work well and very reliably. Good purchase! Enjoy them!

Thanks guys! It's great to know I made the right choice. I was extremely lucky to find the pair just when I needed them.

Actually

the last year for the mechanical controls was last year (2017.) We sold tons at the end of last year when we knew the new machines were coming.

I concur that these are awesome machines and we'd still be selling them as fast as we could get them if they were still available.

pillows and comforter go to laundromat

I have a 2017 TL awne92sp at home the electronic version that fills a little higher without needing the mod. Queen or larger comforters and pillows go to a FL at the laundromat. I don't think any TL will do pillows they float too much. I've tried it and end up basically hand washing it in the machine pushing it around in each cycle from wash to rinse and still not sure it gets clean.

I’m still undecided...

I’ve got the AWN series 8. I can’t say I love this machine. I find it causes pilling on our clothes. I have to be really particular about my loads now. Anything that I want to look nice after washing must go in lingerie bags. Annoying.

It always causes suds out of the drain pipe even with the special rubber gasket that is supplied. I wrote to speed queen who said that my new machine is washing out soap residue from my old washer and that in the time that it takes to go through a jug of liquid HE soap my problem should be over. The washer will be a year old in February and it still suds. I have to use fabric softener or vinegar with every load to cut the suds. Now my Fabric softener dispenser is gooey. You can clean the dispense as per the manual but you cannot get down the centre of the agitator where the funk really resides.

This machine barely spins clothes dry.

The water levels are odd. Small gives about 6 inches of water, medium fills tub 1 inch below full and full is full. It’s weird.

These are all things I can put up with. But annoying to anyone who wishes to use the machine and doesn’t know its quirks. My in-laws bought a top load Maytag the same day as I bought the speed queen. They hate it because it takes over an hour to wash a load.
I guess that’s what my machine does have going for it! It’s fast.
