Hello everyone
I have been reading your posts for a while and have found the camaraderie between you to be very nice. I am no expert on vintage appliances (I'm into collecting old phonographs and vinyl records) but reading your posts has given me an appreciation for these awesome items. Two years ago I purchased a 1939 home that was owned and occupied by the same couple since 1950! They kept detailed records of everything, including original receipts and manuals for the appliances. The dishwasher is a Kitchen Aid from 1981 and the stove is a GE from 1979 (granted, not as 'vintage' as some of your items). I almost replaced the dishwasher but after using it a few times I realized how good this thing is and now I would not change it. I loved the vintage feel of the home and I'm happy I have kept the appliances. I have also found a 1957 Mixmaster at a local thrift store for 5.99! It works perfectly but since I'm not a cook, it doesn't get much use. Here are some of the facts:

Dishwasher: Kitchen Aid Superba by Hobart/ Model KDS-20. Purchased in Novemeber 1981 for $579.00 + tax and installation. Total: $662.95 (wow!)

Range GE JCP68W (this baby looks brand new, yet it was installed in July of 1979).It cost $811.00

They also left the manuals and receipts for their previous diswasher which was a Kitchen Aid model KD-12P. That one was purchased in July of 1960 for $259.00 (plus tax and instalation). Total$ 284.00

Unfortunately, the washer and dryer are boring and new (late 1990's). Nothing like the cool 1950's pieces I've seen here.
Anyway, I just wanted to share a couple of pictures with you and thank you for reading for my post.
Cheers
Luis

Hey Tulsaguy,
We have the same dishwasher. They are the best. Aren't you glad you didn't part with it?

Thanks for posting the pictures of your appliances! You're right; those Kitchen-Aids were great machines. I had a 1984 TOL KitchenAid and it was great. I loved how it would heat the water before the wash cycle started. By the time I purchased my next KitchenAid, they were made by Whirlpool (around 1988) and the 3-wash Pots/Pans cycle and the pre-wash water-heating features were gone...

thank you, Hoover1060
I had the floors installed shortly after I moved. I feel they give the kitchen a vintage look (and it is much better than the hideous 70's carpet that was there before!).

Hey, carvenstud!

Welcome! That's a great kitchen you got there--particularly that Kitchenaid, but then, I'm biased. One of these days, I'm going to do the checkerboard thing in my foyer.

With a fabboo kitchen like that, you have to start cooking! The Mixmaster, Kitchenaid and the stove all need a good workout. We're also a good source for recipes, so just speak up.

thank you Veg
I had the floors installed after I bought the house. I love the look although they can be hard to keep clean. One of these days I'll get inspired and actually USE the stove, the oven, the mixmaster....my sister and brother are great cooks but I'm afraid I did not inherit that gene!.
Cheers

Nice lookin place you got there! I love old homes. They have character and craftsmanship that is unmatched by the newer ones. I couldn't imagine CARPET in a kitchen! That floor through looks great with your paint scheme.

That's a mighty fine Dishwasher you've got there too. I also spotted the vintage Mixmaster up on the countertop. I've got one just like that...great mixers aren't they! That range looks to be rather top-line model there...all of it's in great shape!

thank you cybrvanr
yeah I loved this house from day one and although it was very dated, it had lots of potential. The diswasher is awesome....one of the previous posts calls it a 'hurricane in a box' and that's a great description. Also, $662.00 was a lot in 1981 (and even today) so that tells me that it was a quality item.
thanks!
Luis
