"new" top on Maytag DW

I picked up this mid 70's Maytag belt-driven portable DW a couple years ago. The whole center impeller / pump comes as a one-piece assembly which I replaced. Along with the belt. Its in excellent condition. An appliance repairman had previously owned it and replaced the timer. I just refinished (power sanded) the butcher block top and coated with orange wax from Williams Sonoma. Here are some pics. It came out really nice. I am thinking about selling it if anyone is interested.

At first I tried hand sanding it and it wasn't working or would have taken me forever. The top was in rough shape before. Here is a before pic ...........

AWESOME and smells SO GOOD, its suppose to be "food-friendly" so to speak ......... the wax is what really brings out the nice "honey" color and subtle sheen/smooth finish ......... cool, huh?

Very nice looking top on that Maytag - they look so nice when sanded and oiled. Truly a thing of the past, a wood top on an appliance.

NOT ........ I don't get it, the listing automatically came up and asked me what I wanted to charge for shipping but didn't give me any provision to put NO shipping, so I put a zero in the dollar amt. space and bolded and underlined NO SHIPPING in the listing instead.

I am actually using a top of the line, all computerized GE dw in my kitchen from the late 80's, possibly early 90's.

Greg, that's a GSD2200 (don't believe there was ever a GSD2400 or 2600). It's the next to the TOL GSD2800, which GadgetGary has. There wre some racking, filtration, and wash arm differences betwen the two models. My sister had this model in a patio home that was built in 1984. I have the GSD1200, teh rapid advance timer version of the GSD2800, but without sani-rinse option. I"d love to nkow how this compares to some of the other somewhat "modern" dishwashers you've had. I still am amazed at the cleaning my does at it's soon-to-be 20 year old age.

That GE 2200 is awesome...such a difference from the lower-end machines GE offered around that time. One thing I noticed on the TOL machines is that they are pretty substantial and much more well-made than the others as well. Some friends of ours in Houston have a jet-black 2800 (still electronic with the LED readout, but with more buttons) in their house they bought early this year and I was impressed when I saw it.

I like the GE

I grew up with a D&M made Philco-FORD from 1968 til my parents bought a GE in 1982 which is what they still have in there kitchen and it runs great still. gadgets is a few years older and nicer control panel than mine, his top console is chrome but yes his is a 2800 and mine a 2200, I don't have the fine mesh filter that gary probably has too. But they all had that 5.3 amp motor for years and years. Supposedly the new style motors/pumps can work or replace the ones in these older machines. Mine is tad noisy, not to bad, about the same or a bit quieter than the KA. Cleaning performance has been great so far. Although I have yet to put anything in there burnt on/baked on which I did do in the KA and it came out spotless/perfect.

I had the same GE dishwasher in my house in Chicago, what a great machine, you could just throw anything in it and it came out clean. Do you love it when the washarm gets blocked and it shuts down and beeps at you.
