Hi guys,

Well: here's the video for the Aussie made WP 2299. It's been edited slightly and I haven't yet finished bypassing the lid switch so you'll my arm invade the video for spin. I also finished the video in the first spin before the 2nd rinse.

Have you tried pressing Start and waiting the 8 seconds without pressing anything else?  IIRC, the U.S. model defaulted to Reg/Heavy, which would start automatically with the default options (Warm wash, cold rinse, normal wash time) after the initial wait.

Were all of the components of this machine Aussie made by Mallys or were some WP sourced from the USA?

For reference:

Here is a Video of a slightly newer US version done by our own RedCarpetDrew. Note the wider cabinet, rear opening lid and larger tub. IIRC WP never offered a standard capacity washer in the US with electronic controls. Again What a wonderful find and may you enjoy many great washes with it.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the link. As to if some of the components were US sourced, I can't honestly say, I'd have to check some of the components themselves. Nathan (Brisnat81) might have a better idea.

I do know the Australian version has a transformer

@dadoes: Yes, I think it defaults to the Regular / Heavy cycle, but will have to try it out.

I also noticed that the drain periods are painfully long, LOL.  It's apparently a fixed-timed drain.  U.S. version (I believe) had variable drain period, 2x the water level reset + 30 seconds.  Must be some reason for the difference related to the Aus market.

Nice video, and the machine is nicely quiet with good bearings.

YES: it's a VERY long drain period!

My arm was getting sore pressing in that button all that time!

Neutral Drain periods On WPs First Electronic Washers

On the first US machines [ LFA9800s ] they had a fixed 4 minute drain period just like super capacity with a timer [ standard capacity BD WPs of the time had a two minute drain period ].

 

The next version of WPs electronically controlled machines [ LHA9800 ] had a variable drain period, the machine would drain until the mechanical water level switch would reset and then the computer would keep the washer draining for the same length of time again.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification.  I wasn't sure if the variable drain was featured immediately on the first generation, or a bit later along.
